You might be wondering why some players took home less than what they should have for where they finished.
For ties, the players split the sum of the prize money for their finishing position and all subsequent spots that no player finished in. So for second-place finishers, they split the sum of the second, third, fourth and fifth-place prize, hence why their share is less than if they had finished alone in third.
Unlike most every other tournament PGA Tour golfers play in, there is no second-round cut at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. It begins with a 70-player field, less than half the number of a typical PGA Tour event.
However, the bottom-20 players in the FedEx Cup points standings at the end of the tournament are eliminated form contention and are not invited to play in the remaining two playoff events.
These 20 players do still earn anywhere from $40,000 to $50,000 for playing in the tournament.
The total purse for the FedEx St. Jude Championship is $20 million.
