Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season concludes with an attractive NFC South match-up between Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints at the Superdome in Louisiana on Monday night.
The division was won by Carolina Panthers with an 8-9 record last season and the section has got off to a similarly unimpressive start this time, with the early results meaning that none of the teams will have a winning record heading into Week 5.
Both of these teams are 1-2 as the Falcons took a step forward when quarterback Michael Penix Jr. returned from injury in a 35-14 win over Green Bay Packers in the Thursday night game of Week 3, while the Saints were beaten 35-27 by Las Vegas Raiders on their last outing.
The Falcons caused an upset when they belatedly burst into life with their win at Lambeau Field.
They had been dreadful in their first two games under new head coach Kevin Stefanski, losing 20-13 to Pittsburgh Steelers before being blown out 34-3 in their first divisional game against the Panthers.
What they achieved in that game has to be questioned as the Packers have not been the force of old this season and, while the Saints have lost two of their first three games, they have been competitive in all of them and look capable of having an improved season.
Even so, with New Orleans made favorites, the money line and spread are easily passed over in favor of a bet on the total going over 47.5 points.
Two of the Saints' first three outings have produced totals of 60-plus points.
While the Falcons began with low-scoring losses to the Steelers and Panthers in which they contributed just 16 points as Cooper Rush struggled at quarterback, they showcased their offensive potential in their win over Green Bay.
The Falcons have one of the most impressive offensive rosters in the league with superstar running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London topping the bill.
If Penix Jr. can continue to extract their potential the outlook should be brighter than their initial efforts suggested.
The Saints have gone toe-to-toe with some strong sides so far, losing by only one point to Detroit Lions in a thriller, when they failed with a two-point conversion attempt that would have won the game in overtime.
Scoring 24 points against a talented Baltimore Ravens defense was also impressive and they added 27 against a similarly improving Raiders team, while allowing 35 points, which also appeals for the over wager.
The Saints will be without starting running back Travis Etienne Jr. for this game due to injury but, with former starter Alvin Kamara healthy again and Kendre Miller capable of handling more carries, they can still pose a threat with their ground game.
New Orleans' Juwan Johnson is arguably one of the more underrated tight ends in the league and he has begun 2026 with three strong efforts and can post at least 41 receiving yards against the Falcons.
Johnson has the second-most receiving yards on the team through three games.
He managed 54 and a touchdown against the Lions in Week 1 despite making only three receptions from seven targets, but he has been far more efficient since, catching all 12 of the passes that have come his way.
Johnson had 66 receiving yards against the Ravens and then caught eight passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns against the Raiders.
He has had success against the Falcons previously, too, with totals of 46 and 61 yards in their NFC South meetings last season.
Atlanta's Bijan Robinson continues to produce despite his team going through some leaner times and he already has 349 rushing yards and 118 receiving yards through three games.
His numbers should only improve if Penix Jr. continues at the level he showed against the Packers, as opponents won't be able to concentrate on stopping him.
The Saints gave up 156 rushing yards to Detroit star Jahmyr Gibbs in Week 1 and, while they did better against Derrick Henry (68) and Ashton Jeanty (56) after that, Robinson is capable of exceeding 87.5 rushing yards.
He had a huge game against the Packers with 194 rushing yards and he often thrives in the primetime spotlight, with two rushes of 81 or more yards on Monday Night Football last season.
