Monaco Grand Prix: Picks, Predictions and Odds

World Champion Max Verstappen took his second victory of the 2025 F1 season in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last weekend, but the drivers face an entirely different challenge around the twisting streets of Monte Carlo.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri was only third at Imola after taking pole position, but he still leads the championship standings by 13 points after winning four of the first seven races this season.

His teammate Lando Norris is second, having been runner-up four times since winning the opening race of the season in Australia.

Verstappen benefited from a car upgrade in Emilia Romagna and is now only nine points behind Norris and within one race win of Piastri.

After last year's Monaco race saw the first 10 cars finish in exactly the same order as they had qualified, organizers have attempted to add more intrigue by stipulating that all cars must make two pit stops in the race.

This could lead to teams trying to leave their tire changes as late as possible in the hope of stopping only under the safety car, and may bring a late rush of cars into the pit lane.

Monaco Grand Prix betting picks and predictions

Oscar Piastri to win (+200)

The Monaco Grand Prix was a rare tough weekend for Verstappen during his stroll to a fourth World Championship win last season, as he finished only sixth. While his Red Bull team made impressive progress last week, McLaren could have the upper hand again in Monaco.

The British team has not won in Monte Carlo since Lewis Hamilton's victory in his first world championship season in 2008, but Piastri's second place to Charles Leclerc last year on his second F1 visit there bodes well for him to get back to winning ways this weekend.

The Australian has four wins and two third places from his last six races and will be keen to make amends after allowing Verstappen to get past him on the first lap last week after making a solid start from pole position.

The virtual safety car and full safety car periods worked against Piastri, who was on much older tires than his teammate Norris for the run to the finish, but he should be looking forward to visiting Monte Carlo again.

Piastri took two second places at Monaco in his Formula 2 Championship-winning season and was faster than pole man Leclerc in the first two qualifying sessions last year.

That is a positive sign at a track where a driver can make more difference than many others.

Lewis Hamilton to finish 3rd (+700)

There were emotional scenes in Monaco last season as Monegasque driver Leclerc won his home race, but Ferrari's weakness in qualifying this season could cost them a chance of a repeat at a track where performance in the one-lap Saturday shootout is critical.

Even so, Ferrari showed decent pace in the race last week after starting 11th and 12th on the grid, with Hamilton finishing a season-best fourth place and Leclerc coming in sixth.

Hamilton has had a tough start to life with Ferrari, with his sprint-race win in China the only real highlight so far. There should be a more positive mood in the Italian team after Imola, and a first podium of the year could be within reach.

Hamilton won the race for Mercedes in 2016 and 2019, and a return to the iconic circuit could inspire an improved performance from the seven-time champion.

Pierre Gasly points finish (+162)

Pierre Gasly has recorded only one top-10 finish so far this season, despite showing good pace on several occasions, but he could add to his seventh place in Bahrain at a track where he often performs well.

The French driver has finished out of the points on only one of his six F1 visits to Monte Carlo and even that was an 11th place in 2022, when he made excellent progress after qualifying 17th.

Gasly has finished in the points at the street circuit for Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Alpha Tauri and Alpine, with a best of fifth in 2019.

He qualified 10th at Imola last weekend, but lost ground after an early skirmish with Leclerc. He could gain compensation with a points finish this time around.
