Monaco Grand Prix: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The 2024 F1 season is coming to the boil nicely with the promise of plenty of exciting racing over the remainder of the year.

It's a huge weekend of auto racing with the Indianapolis 500 taking place on the same day as the glamorous Monaco Grand Prix.

Interest in the F1 championship is rising fast after McLaren's Lando Norris claimed his first career victory in Miami before pushing world champion Max Verstappen all the way in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola last week.

Verstappen has a handy 48-point lead over Charles Leclerc in the championship standings after seven races in his bid for a fourth straight world title but the chasing pack are closing in fast.

Monaco Grand Prix betting picks and predictions

Max Verstappen to win -150

Betting odds are often a great way of illustrating how things are changing and Max Verstappen is available at -150 odds in Monaco when the offer was just -1200 for the Miami race earlier this month.

At the new prices he becomes a worthy wager again as while Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc will both feel they have a shot at victory in Monaco, Verstappen remains the man to beat and he drives this twisting street circuit well.

Verstappen has won five of the six races he has completed this season and his struggles on the hard tire compound at Imola should not be an issue at Monte Carlo, where tire wear is rarely a factor.

The Dutchman has won two of the last three races at the historic circuit and should prove hard to beat.

Norris finished on the podium at Monaco in 2021 after starting officially fifth but fourth in reality as pole-sitter Leclerc was unable to start the race.

However, the British driver does not have an outstanding record at the track and McLaren's recent progress should be seen to better effect at the faster circuits on the schedule, while this is the slowest race of them all.

Carlos Sainz Jr. to finish third +450

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc would love to win his home race in Monaco but he has had a shocking set of results there in F1.

After that failure to start in 2021 due to damage sustained in a qualifying crash, Leclerc's team threw away victory the following year with a tactical blunder that left him in fourth place.

Last year Leclerc could manage only sixth in a wet race after starting sixth on the grid due to a three-place penalty for impeding Norris in qualifying.

Ferrari should have decent speed this weekend but a better value bet involving one of the scarlet cars may be to back Carlos Sainz Jr. to finish third at +450 odds.

The Spanish driver finished best of the Ferraris when runner-up at Monaco in 2021 and 2022. He has never been outside the points at the track in F1, even though he has competed there for four different teams - Toro Rosso, Renault, McLaren and Ferrari.

This bet could cash if the Ferraris follow Verstappen home in second and third, or perhaps if Sainz is again the leading car for his team behind Verstappen and Norris. With Leclerc priced at only +275 to finish third, the +450 for Sainz in the same car has value.
