Dutch Grand Prix: Picks, Predictions and Odds

Formula 1 returns from its summer break with world champion Max Verstappen aiming to break a four-race winless streak and continue his dominance of his home race in the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

Verstappen still has a clear 78-point lead in the standings but is in his biggest slump for four years having failed to win four straight races.

The Dutch driver has never been beaten in his home race at Zandvoort in the Netherlands, however, scoring victories from pole position at the tight and twisting track in each of the last three seasons.

Dutch Grand Prix betting picks and predictions

Max Verstappen to win (+175)

Verstappen has not won since the Spanish Grand Prix in June but the Red Bull driver will be happy enough that his rivals have been taking turns to replace him on the top step of the podium. He retains a healthy championship lead as the drivers return from their summer vacation.

Lewis Hamilton has won two of the four races during Verstappen's quieter run, with George Russell and Oscar Piastri also successful, but the second-placed driver in the championship, McLaren's Lando Norris, has failed to take advantage and has not won since the Miami Grand Prix in early May.

Norris has had multiple chances to win since then but has been blighted by factors largely outside his control - such as his collision with Verstappen when they were fighting for the lead in Austria - as well as his own mistakes which include a series of poor starts.

The British driver is challenging Verstappen at the top of the betting odds now as McLaren has looked the strongest car, but Norris is hard to trust at shorter odds given his struggles to convert its performance into points.

Verstappen's odds are now far more attractive than they often were in the early part of the season, when -600 and -800 was not unusual. At +175, he has excellent value.

The four-race winless run is not as bad as it sounds as he was set for a top-two finish in Austria before his clash with Norris, he was second in Great Britain and could have been third in Hungary if not for a late collision with Hamilton.

His chances in Belgium in the last race before the break were ruined by a 10-place grid penalty but he qualified fastest by a wide margin and improved from 11th on the grid to fourth at the finish, less than 10 seconds behind the winner.

Verstappen would likely have been fighting for the win without that penalty and now he heads to a track where he has dominated, winning from pole every year since the Dutch Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar in 2021.

Lando Norris to finish third (+450)

Norris is overdue a race success and should have had at least two or three more since his first career victory in Florida, but he has been on the podium five times since that success and he can take another top-three finish in the Netherlands.

The top two steps on the podium will not be easy to reach with teammate Oscar Piastri having finished ahead of him in three of the last four races and Verstappen expected to challenge for the win, so odds of +450 for Norris to come third make plenty of appeal.

Norris has never shone at Zandvoort, finishing 10th in 2021 after qualifying 13th, seventh from seventh on the grid in 2022 and seventh again after qualifying second in last year's wild rain-affected race.

With the Mercedes pair of Hamilton and Russell potentially getting a boost from a new floor, the battle at the front should be close and third looks a likely landing spot for Norris in this race.

Pierre Gasly points finish (+400)

Pierre Gasly has a better record at Zandvoort than most drivers and is worthy of support to at least make the top 10 this weekend.

The Alpine driver has picked up points in four of the last seven races (he did not start at Silverstone due to a gearbox problem) and will be hoping for another strong performance at a technical track where he enjoys the challenge.

Gasly was an impressive fourth for the AlphaTauri team when Zandvoort returned to the calendar in 2021, finished just outside the points in 11th in 2022 and then had his best result of last season in this race.

The Frenchman made the right strategy calls as drivers switched between intermediate and slick tyres and was rewarded with a podium finish in third place.

Alpine have taken a step back this year but Gasly drives well at the twisty coastal circuit and could sneak into the top 10 again.
