Eubank eager to silence Awdijan in Newcastle

Chris Eubank Jr says he has extra motivation for Saturday's fight with Wanik Awdijan because of comments made by his opponent on social media.

Eubank is 1/7 to win by a knockout, technical knockout or disqualification and 33/1 to win by a majority decision in Newcastle.

Frustrating time

It has been a frustrating time for the 32-year-old Eubank, whose previous fight two weeks ago had to be called off when opponent Sven Elbir and his replacement Anatoli Muratov pulled out due to medical issues.

That prompted Awdijan to suggest on social media that he was available to take on Eubank but the British boxer had swerved the contest. Eubank, in turn, claimed the fight could not have gone ahead then because the Armenian-born German was "overweight".

The pair will now meet at Newcastle's Utilita Arena where Awdijan will be hoping to extend his professional record of 28 wins from 29 fights. The bout is on the undercard of Savannah Marshall's world title defence against Lolita Muzeya, along with Hughie Fury versus Christian Hammer.

'Disappointed'

Speaking at Thursday's pre-fight press conference, Eubank said: "I'm disappointed in this man here because he had so much to say online. So much heat and energy came from his social media. Now? I see a man who doesn't have the same fire.

"Before you said the things that you said, you were just a guy that I needed to beat to get to the next guy. There was no malice. After seeing the things you said? I have a reason to terrorise you."
