The Overwatch Champions Series is still in its infancy, having replaced the Overwatch League at the start of the year, but starting on Friday, the circuit will play host to its first major international event - the OWCS Major Dallas.
Running from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2, the S-Tier event will feature eight teams and will take place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.
The Overwatch 2 tournament will have a double-elimination bracket format and will feature arguably the best eight teams from across the globe.
There are three teams involved from the North America region - Toronto Defiant, M80 and Students of the Game - while representing the EMEA region are Spacestation Gaming, ENCE and Twisted Minds.
And completing the lineup for the first OWCS Major are Asia's two competitors - Crazy Raccoon and Team Falcons.
Fans of the previous Overwatch League may still be getting used to the new format of the Overwatch Champions Series but the upcoming Major in Dallas is not without its eye-catching players.
Hadi "Hadi" Bleinagel, for example, used to turn out for Boston Uprising in the Overwatch League and will be competing for Spacestation in this event, while South Korean ace Ham "SOMEONE" Jeong-wan will feature for Toronto Defiant, having previously been named OWL MVP in the 2023 Grand Finals.
It is fair to say it is a star-studded lineup but the new format and the fact this is the first international Major of the season means predictions will be based solely on how teams have performed domestically this campaign.
While the tournament's prize pool is yet to be confirmed, there is plenty to play for in this OWCS Major in Dallas with the top two North American or EMEA teams set to qualify for the Esports World Cup 2024.
Asian dominance is expected at the OWCS Major Dallas this weekend with the region's two competitors - Crazy Raccoon and Team Falcons - at the head of the outright betting.
Crazy Raccoon are -125 to get the job done, while a title win for Team Falcons is priced at +200.
Whereas the EMEA and North America regions have already played through two stages this season, the Asia region have played just one stage but it was a strong field and Crazy Raccoon came out on top.
Indeed, Crazy Raccoon barely broke a sweat in the upper bracket of the Asia Stage One Main Event, sweeping aside INSOMNIA and From The Gamer by an aggregate score of 6-1 in the first two rounds.
That put them through to the upper-bracket final in which they faced Team Falcons and showed their superiority with a 3-0 win, prevailing on Ilios, Eichenwalde and Colosseo.
Those teams then reconvened in the Grand Final after Team Falcons beat From The Gamer but Crazy Raccoon were again comfortable, winning 4-1.
The way Crazy Racoon dominated their region cannot be ignored and it is easy to see why they are favourites to win the season's first Major. They are worth backing.
As for the other competitors, Crazy Raccoon's regional rivals Team Falcons are the obvious next pick but Toronto Defiant could be worth a wager at +350 to make the final.
Defiant open with a match against ENCE, who purchased free agent squad BuboSprayCheck earlier this year, but ultimately had to settle for second spot in both stages of the EMEA season.
As for Toronto, they won both North American Stage Main Events this season, losing just one match in the process.
They come into this Major in pretty strong form and with the experience of players such as "SOMEONE" behind them, they could go deep in this event and give the Asian sides a run for their money.
Crazy Raccoon -125
Team Falcons +200
Toronto Defiant +900
Spacestation Gaming +1000
M80 +1400
ENCE +1600
Students of the Game +50000
Twisted Minds +50000
