The European RMR A region will get started next week to determine who qualifies for one of the biggest events on the Counter Strike 2 calendar, the Perfect World Major in Shanghai, which begins later this month.
There are 16 teams competing in the region's qualifying event with only seven of them able to qualify for the Perfect World Major in Shanghai.
The CS2 Perfect World Major European RMR A event is considered an A-Tier tournament and will take place offline with the 16 teams involved playing in a Swiss System Format whereby the Buchholz system is used to seed matches from rounds three to five.
At the end of the event, the top six teams will qualify directly for the Perfect World Major, while the teams in the seventh and eighth positions will compete in a playoff to decide the final team to progress.
There are plenty of big names involved in the European RMR A tournament from Natus Vincere to Team Vitality but there are also teams on the fringes looking to make their mark from Team Falcons to Cloud9.
Only seven teams will progress from the CS2 Perfect World Major European RMR A to the Perfect World Major in Shanghai but the team who are eighth in the betting, Sangal, make an appeal to upset the odds at +110.
The likes of Team Falcons and Nemiga are fancied over Sangal, who are being underestimated.
The quality of opponents might not have been the best but Sangal's recent form at the ESL Challenger League Season 48 cannot be ignored as they reeled off four straight wins - two against Nemiga and one against each of SAW and Sashi.
And while their performance in season 20 of the ESL Pro League did not exactly blow anyone away, they performed markedly better than many of the teams around them in the betting for this event.
Sangal finished in the 17th-20th positions in the most recent season of the ESL Pro League with big names such as Fnatic, Astralis, Team Falcons and Ninjas in Pyjamas finishing in the bracket below them.
And in the closed qualifier for the European RMR A, they finished second in the overall standings with an impressive 3-0 win-loss record.
Qualifying for the Perfect World Major requires teams to finish in the top eight of this half of the European tournament, a feat which should be well within reach of Sangal, who are a decent 27th in the HLTV world rankings.
The HLTV world CS2 rankings do not reflect as positively on Cloud9 as they do on Sangal but that does not mean Cloud9 should be dismissed in the race to make the top seven.
Cloud9 are down in 76th in the HLTV world rankings but they too impressed during the closed qualifiers for this event, winning their division with a 3-0 record.
They have shown their class in previous qualifying events when finishing first in their closed qualifying section for the Thunderpick World Championship and in the first and second spots for the IEM Rio.
At the Thunderpick World Championship itself, Cloud9 finished in the 9th-12th positions with their one win coming against 9z, while they lost narrowly to Fnatic and were beaten 2-0 by The MongolZ.
This is a competitive event with seven of the 16 teams involved in the CS2 Perfect Major European RMR A odds-on to qualify.
But the outcome of these kinds of tournaments is rarely that straightforward and Cloud9 deserve attention at +137 to qualify.
