From Dota 2 to League of Legends, a host of Esports have taken centre stage at the ongoing Esports World Cup and this week it is the turn of Call of Duty.
The Esports World Cup is in its inaugural season and is a multi-game tournament taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
And on Thursday, the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 event gets underway with a prize pool of $1.8 million and 16 teams competing for glory.
The bulk of the lineup is made up of teams from the highly rated Call of Duty League but the event will also feature a number of lesser-known sides looking to make an impact.
The Call of Duty League season finished earlier in 2024 but fans of the Esport have one more chance to see their favorite teams and players involved with big guns such as Atlanta FaZe, OpTic Gaming and Cloud9 at the head of the betting.
Ahead of the tournament starting, here is a look at some of the best betting picks and predictions for the 2024 Call of Duty Esports World Cup event.
Modern Warfare 3 will be the game played in the Call of Duty Esports World Cup event and given that is the same as what was used in this year's Call of Duty League, it makes sense to look at that competition for inspiration.
Teams which succeeded in the CDL 2024 will likely be in the mix for the Esports World Cup tournament title and, therefore, OpTic Gaming could be of interest.
It is fair to say OpTic Gaming are one of the in-form sides in the world of Call of Duty. They are fresh from winning the Call of Duty League Championship in their home state of Texas just last month, having won 3-2 against New York Subliners in the Grand Final.
During the regular season they were pretty consistent with 29 wins from 45 matches and they were also winners of the Stage Three Major earlier in the year.
That Major victory came in an event hosted by Toronto Ultra, demonstrating that OpTic can win away from home and they represent value in the betting at +225.
Having minnows like Gentle Mates and OMiT Brooklyn involved in this event can only be good for the Esport but it is the big guns who will be pushing for the title. OpTic Gaming are a better pick than +200 favorites Atlanta FaZe, who haven’t won a tournament since the CDL Stage Two Major.
Those after another bet may consider Cloud9 to win the Call of Duty event at the Esports World Cup, at +250.
Cloud9 may not be recognisable to casual observers of the CDL but the team will be familiar as it is essentially the New York Subliners.
It was recently announced that Cloud9 had acquired the Subliners squad, meaning they will no longer play under the New York banner in CDL and the same applies to this tournament.
But it is worth remembering it is the same group of players and they excelled in the CDL this year.
Not only did they win the final stage of the season but New York Subliners nearly went the distance overall, reaching the Grand Final at the Call of Duty League Championship.
They have been steadily improving on the CDL circuit over the past few years and will be eyeing the title in 2025. But before then, they could well give their fans something to shout about by winning the Esports World Cup event as Cloud9.
