The Valorant Esports season reaches its climax this week with the 2024 Valorant Champions about to get underway in South Korea.
Set to take place in Seoul and Incheon, the S-Tier competition will take begin on Thursday, August 1 with the group stage.
In this phase of the competition, the 16 teams involved will be split across four groups of four teams with the top two in each section advancing to the playoffs.
Matches will be played in a best-of-three format with the exception of the lower-bracket final and the Grand Final, both of which will have best-of-five formats.
With big sides like Gen.G Esports and Leviatan involved and a prize pool of more than $2 million, it is a tournament not to be missed.
There are plenty of big names involved in this year's edition of the Valorant Champions but few make more of an appeal than Gen.G Esports, even at odds of +250.
Last year Gen.G did not even feature in the Valorant Champions but the fact they head into this season's competition as favorites emphasises how much they have turned things around.
They have been one of the most consistent teams on the Valorant world circuit this year, reaching the finals of each of the five major competitions in which they have competed.
Most recently they won the VCT 2024 Pacific Stage Two, having also won the VCT 2024 Pacific Kickoff back in February, while they were crowned VCT 2024 Masters Shanghai champions in June.
They were runners-up at the VCT 2024 Masters Madrid and VCT 2024 Pacific Stage One and it would be foolish to discount them.
At the Pacific Stage Two, they won seven of their eight matches, recording back-to-back victories over DRX, and they should be feared.
Paper Rex ace Khalish "d4v41" Rusyaidee said earlier in the season that it was a "honeymoon phase" from Gen.G but they have shown their early-season success was no fluke.
They changed rosters at the start of the season but the experience and synergy of the team makes it look like they have played together for years.
They have excellent balance to the team and a great record behind them, while they also have the added advantage of playing in their home country of South Korea, so support should not be in short supply.
At +250, they look a good value and they should give bettors a run for their money.
Away from obvious candidates like Gen.G at +250 and Fnatic at +350, bettors may want to consider a bet on Team Heretics at +600.
Team Heretics are not considered giants in the world of Valorant but they have shown their class in recent tournaments on the Valorant Champions Tour.
They were runners-up at each of the VCT 2024 EMEA Stage One and the VCT 2024 Masters Shanghai in May and June.
And they went on to also secure third spot at the VCT 2024 EMEA Stage Two, so it is fair to say they are a team in form.
The performance in Shanghai was particularly eye-catching as that was an international event in which they won $200,000, so that could act as a decent gauge for the Valorant Champions 2024.
Gen.G are certainly the team to beat right now but Team Heretics know how to mix it with the best on tour and look overpriced at +600.
They are joined by Gen.G in Group B in the Valorant Champions and that will be a testing encounter but two teams progress from each section and Team Heretics should have enough in their locker to finish above FunPlus Phoenix and Sentinels.
