Eagles QB Options After Jalen Hurts is Ruled Out for the Season

Jalen Hurts is officially out for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after further medical evaluations revealed that his original diagnoses of a superficial blood clot in his calf was more serious.

Doctors discovered deep veins thrombosis and blood clots in both lungs, ruling the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback out for the rest of the season as he undergoes treatment.

Philadelphia is already on a four-game losing streak, and the absence of their star quarterback adds another major hurdle to a season disrupted by injuries across the roster.

Philadelphia's Quarterback Options

The Eagles have already reshuffled their quarterback depth chart this season. The team released veteran backup Andy Dalton on October 9th after throwing an end-zone interception against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.

Philadelphia signed Joe Milton III off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on October 16. Milton brings arm strength and mobility, but with limited NFL experience, it is unknown whether he can emerge as a reliable alternative to Tanner McKee.

In 2023, the Eagles drafted quarterback Tanner McKee in the sixth round. McKee made his third career start against the Carolina Panthers, throwing 215 yards and a touchdown in a 25-14 defeat on Sunday.

Tanner McKee appears to be the most immediate option at quarterback, but with the Eagles sitting at 2-4, questions are emerging about how the organization will approach the remainder of the season.

With the trade deadline just over three weeks away, general manager Howie Roseman could explore the market for additional quarterback options or consider adding depth through the 2027 NFL Draft.
