EA Sports is gearing up for the 34th installment of its iconic football franchise, formerly known as FIFA.
The upcoming EAFC 27 is set to introduce a host of exciting updates and new game modes.
EAFC 27 will feature significant changes to both its gameplay mechanics and core modes. Here are some of the main highlights:
In the new version, EA Sports is overhauling defensive mechanics. The update will improve manual defending while reducing the effectiveness of AI-assisted defending, giving players more direct control without the ball.
Set pieces are also getting a major rework, particularly corners. Players will now be able to control attacking runs into the box and utilize new blocking movements. These changes, combined with improved player positioning, aim to create a wider variety of scoring opportunities from dead-ball situations.
This year's biggest addition is "The Grounds," an open-world hub similar to NBA 2K's "The Park." This new environment will serve as a central point for accessing various game modes, including Clubs, Rush, and other new quick-play options.
The Grounds will also mark the return of Alex Hunter from "The Journey" (FIFA 17-19), who will now act as a mentor to help players develop their custom characters. Other mentors include Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, and Paulo Dybala, each offering unique guidance within the hub.
The franchise's most popular mode returns with a new feature called FUT Gallery. Focusing on the collecting aspect of the game, this allows you to keep a collection of all cards you've ever owned, even after they've left your club, and trade them for exclusive rewards.
Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) have also been revamped. The old system of meeting specific overall, position, and chemistry requirements is being replaced by a points-based system. Each card will have a point value, changing how many and which types of players are needed to complete each challenge.
The global release for EAFC 27 is scheduled for September 25th for the Standard Edition. Players who purchase the Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Editions will get early access starting on September 18th.
The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC (via the EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store).
EAFC 27 will be available in three different editions, each with its own price point and in-game benefits, primarily for the Ultimate Team mode.
