Premier League Darts - PDC: Night 12 Preview

Night 12 of the Premier League sees the elite stars of darts head to Dublin's 3 Arena with the top four beginning to look a lot more settled, and those below desperate to secure wins.

Kicking off proceedings is James Wade versus Michael van Gerwen before Gerwyn Price faces Joe Cullen.

The third quarter-final is between Michael Smith and Gary Anderson before Jonny Clayton plays Peter Wright. You can follow the action via our Sports Live Streaming platform.

Van Gerwen hoping for win number four

Jonny Clayton's win in Aberdeen last week has moved Michael van Gerwen off top spot in the Premier League with five more rounds to go before the play offs.

In front of a hostile crowd towards both players, it was Clayton who produced a 6-5 win in a high-quality contest where both players averaged over 100.

However, the new format of the Premier League has certainly seen MVG get his mojo back after a barren 2021 where he failed to win a TV major.

Van Gerwen has won three nights so far and has the highest average throughout the competition, just shy of a ton.

His opponent is the ever-steady James Wade who lies fourth in the table and is on course for the playoffs - his checkout rate of 43% is the highest in the league and that has sustained his challenge.

Wade is 7/4 to win with Van Gerwen priced at 4/9.

New format-hating Price needs win

Gerwyn Price has had a curiously bad record in the Premier League for such an elite player and if his form continues to go awry then he will miss out on the playoffs again.

The Welshman, who admitted this week that he dislikes the new format, is only sixth in the table - nine points adrift of the top four and needs to start winning nights overall to challenge.

The only night he won so far in Belfast was about as perfect an evening as possible - he hit two nine darters and averaged around 107.

However, his form has generally been very patchy and this week comes up against Joe Cullen who is the closest challenger currently to the top four.

Price is available at 1/2 to win with Cullen priced at 13/8.

Battle to avoid wooden spoon

With Michael Smith and Gary Anderson 12 and 13 points respectively off the top four, their hopes of winning the Premier League look to be over unless they can string some dominant results together.

Smith is the only player yet to win a night of the revamped format and it has been a hugely disappointing reintroduction to the competition after he was called up following a run to the final of the World Championship.

Anderson, meanwhile, won the night in Nottingham but eight quarter-final defeats and a withdrawal from Leeds sees him sit bottom.

His usual scoring power hasn't been there often enough and now he faces former protégé Smith, where he is 11/8 to win with Bully Boy 4/7.

Wright keen to cut gap at the top

The final quarter-final is possible the tastiest looking on paper with reigning world champion Peter Wright facing defending Premier League champion and current leader Jonny Clayton.

Ahead of Aberdeen last week, Wright vowed to stop changing his darts and stick with the ones that won him his second world title.

He faces the consistent Clayton who hasn't been beaten in the last eight since night six in Nottingham.

If anyone thought The Ferret's 2021 success was a flash in the pan then they need to think again - the affable Welshman has shown no signs of slipping and he is almost certain of reaching the playoffs in Berlin.

A win overall for Wright would put him only a point behind Clayton and Snakebite can currently be backed to win his quarter-final at 11/10 with Clayton 8/11.
