Penn State Nittany Lions QB Drew Allar has shown off his arm strength while leading his team to a 3-0 record, but he faces his toughest test of the season on Saturday against the No. 19 Illinois Fighting Illini.
Allar spent much of the 2023 season - his first as the starter - throwing short passes to make modest gains. He ended the season averaging 11.3 yards per catch, but this year, he leads the nation with 17.8 yards per reception.
Through three games in 2024, Allar has completed 41/58 passes (70.7 percent) for 729 yards and an 8-1 TD-INT ratio while averaging 218.3 passing yards per game. Allar is a key reason why Penn State is ranked ninth in the AP Poll.
While he has two talented running backs rotating in the backfield in Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, Allar is tied for the team lead with two rushing TDs. Allar has thrown three TD passes in two of three games this season, and he has also rushed for a score in two of Penn State's three games.
He has just one interception on the season, but it came at a bad time as he threw the pick in the end zone with Penn State only up three on Bowling Green in Week 2, but the Nittany Lions ended up winning.
While Allar has clearly improved from last season to the current one, he still has to iron out some wrinkles in his game. Ahead of No. 9 Penn State's Week 5 Big Ten matchup against No. 19 Illinois, let's take a look at Allar's player props, odds and lines for the game.
