Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett has confirmed he will target players currently in Super League as he attempts to build a roster for the start of the 2023 NRL campaign.
The NRL’s latest new club enter the competition from the start of next year and Bennett needs 30 players signed up and ready to. As things stand he has just nine.
England stars targeted
Despite the lack of activity Bennett is remaining calm and says bringing players over from the UK is one option for him. The super coach has a good connection with England and is well aware of the talent pool over there.
“That’s a possibility; we’ve talked to some players over there already,” Bennett said. “When I coached England, out of the 20-odd players, there were 20 of them in my opinion who would make good players in the NRL.”

The clock is ticking on Bennett’s recruitment drive but he is not listening to the outside noise and insists everything is going to plan so far.
He is after a marquee signing and Cameron Munster remains his top target. Talks are ongoing and Bennett has suggested there are deals in the bank that have yet to be announced.
Keeping cool
“We know what we’re doing, we’re confident in it and no-one’s going to distract me personally from doing what I think is the best thing in the club.
“There’s a lot of things sitting in the cupboard back home we haven’t released yet. No-one’s telling any lies here. It’s not in our best interests to come out and make statements (today) until we’ve got some things secured away.”
