Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia picks & predictions from Eddie Hearn, Josh Taylor, Carl Frampton & more

Hear from some of the biggest names in boxing as Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia get set to collide this Saturday night at the Barclays Center in New York City.

Eddie Hearn (Boxing promoter)

I think it’s going to be wild. I don’t know what Ryan Garcia is going to get up to next week. Expect anything.

But also expect a Devin Haney victory – in style.

Josh Taylor (Professional boxer)

I think they’re two good fighters. Garcia’s got the hand speed, not the best boxing IQ. But fast, he’s got good timing with that left hook.

I just think Haney’s got the better boxing skills, he can move, defend and go on offense as well. His vision is great, his field of vision is great, he’s very good at reading an opponent in a fight.

I’m going to go with Devin Haney in this one.

Carl Frampton (Former professional boxer)

Obviously, we’ve seen a lot of madness from Garcia. It’ll be interesting to see what his state of mind is like going into the fight.

I have Haney as the favorite. Quality fighter, very impressed with what I’ve seen from him over his last couple of fights.

Garcia is very fast, fast hands, nice boxer. But some of the things going on in the background and what Garcia has said, I don’t know where he’s at mentally. And I think for him to beat someone like Devin Haney, everything has to be perfect, and I’m not sure it is for him at the minute.

Ade Oladipo (Broadcaster)

I can’t see anything but a Haney win. I know Ryan has spoken about Haney’s lack of power. Haney right now is almost coming into his own. I didn’t think he won against [Lomachenko], but regardless it was a close fight and he got the W.

I don’t know where Ryan is mentally. I don’t know if he knows where he is, so I’ve got to go Devin Haney.

Chris Billiam-Smith (Professional boxer)

Haney’s shown his mettle. I thought he got beat by [Lomachenko] but he still performed well.

Haney’s definitely the favorite in this fight. I don’t think Garcia is touched up from what I’ve seen and the stuff he needs to work on. I think the best version of him we’ve seen was against Luke Campbell, I thought he was really good that night.

Maybe stuff’s gone to his head in a way, he doesn’t seem like he’s really touching up and there’s a few mistakes that are still there.

Dalton Smith (Professional boxer)

If both fighters are 100% mentally and physically, I think it’s a good fight. One where I think Haney does win.

Dan Rafael (Boxing journalist)

I understand why Haney is the favorite and he should be the favorite… Devin’s the champion, he looked fantastic in his last fight against Regis Prograis.

Ryan Garcia looked pretty good against Oscar Duarte getting the knockout in his most recent fight… Duarte is a good fighter but not an elite fighter in that weight class.

If you’re making the case for Garcia, I think he matches Haney for hand speed in general, he has much better power than Devin Haney, and he’s got an electrifying left hook if he can land it.

I think Ryan’s gonna feel like his back’s up against the wall in this one.

Darren Barker (Former professional boxer)

Is it all mind games from [Ryan]? Is he doing this on purpose? I don’t know. I’ve also seen clips of him training his butt off. I think it’s probably a bit of a ploy. I may be wrong.

It’s a brilliant fight between old amateur rivals that are fighting again in the pros. It’s a mouth-watering clash. I think Haney is so hard to beat.

Dave Coldwell (Boxing trainer)

Ryan Garcia is a confident kid. Devin Haney is a super confident kid.

Difference is in abilities. I think that Haney’s ability and the weaknesses stylistically in Garcia, it makes for a perfect fight.

Matt Macklin (Former professional boxer)

I think Haney. I think he’s more on it, Garcia is a bit all over the place. Haney, to me, is a lot more together and focused. That does matter.

Some fighters can compartmentalize and are able to put it together and focus and perform. Can Ryan Garcia do that? I don’t know.

Haney, to me, is equally as good if not better anyways, and he’s the one who seems to be more focused.

Maxi Hughes (Professional boxer)

I think it’s a fantastic fight, great for boxing, I’m glad to see them getting it on.

Haney’s higher level of opponents and the recent move up in weight, I favor him and his boxing skills, if he can stay disciplined. Ryan is probably a bit faster than Devin and obviously has the size as well.

It’s going to be interesting. Ryan can punch, so if he can catch Devin, well… again, a good fight, I slightly favor Devin to win on points.

Paul Smith Jr. (Former professional boxer)

I can’t see anything other than a Haney win. Haney is looking really well.

It’s not that I don’t rate Ryan Garcia, he’s obviously talented but the way that he’s been spoken about or the expectations people have of him are unrealistic.

He’s got so many fundamental faults and flaws in his boxing ability that someone like Haney will absolutely poke holes in him, in my opinion.

So Haney in a stoppage, probably in a knockout.

Sunny Edwards (Professional boxer)

I think I always favored Haney anyways because he doesn’t do much wrong. He’s in control and he’s always finding sharp, accurate, punishing shots. He doesn’t seem to be putting steps wrong in fights, so he’s as good as you’re going to get out there pound-for-pound.

Garcia’s had a good career, he’s shown he’s very dangerous and has heavy hands. There’s big question marks about where his head is right now. Sometimes a monster is created from adversity rather than life being good. If he gets in the ring, it might be the most dangerous Ryan Garcia we’ve seen yet.

At the end of the day, you’re only your mentality.
