Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The meeting of two six-win teams in a division rivalry is one of the highlights of the NFL Week 9 slate as the Detroit Lions visit Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

The teams both impressed in the playoffs last season, each ultimately losing close games to the San Francisco 49ers, and they are on course to make the postseason again.

The Lions are 6-1 with a perfect 3-0 road record, and on a five-game winning streak including wide-margin victories over the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans in their last three matchups.

The Packers are 6-2, with their losses coming in close games against the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings. They are unbeaten in their last four outings after squeezing past the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars in the last two weeks.

The Lions had won four in a row in this series before the Packers won 29-22 at Ford Field in the teams' most recent meeting last November.

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers betting picks and predictions

Detroit Lions -3.0 (-120)

It's something of a shame that what should have been a blockbuster of an NFC North clash will not see both teams going at each other at full strength. There have been injury concerns over both starting quarterbacks this week.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff has said his ankle issue is nothing serious and he expects to play despite missing practice time, but there is greater concern over the participation of Packers signal-caller Jordan Love.

Love suffered a groin injury in the second half of last week's game against the Jaguars and has said it is "realistic" for him to be healthy enough to start, but there is clearly a good chance that backup Malik Willis will make his third start of the season.

That's not a disastrous scenario for Packers fans as Willis won both of his starts against the Colts and Titans when Love was nursing a knee injury in Week 2 and Week 3, but Love either missing the game or starting on minimal practice time is far from ideal.

The Packers have other injury concerns too. Running back Josh Jacobs is expected to play through an ankle issue while cornerback Jaire Alexander's knee is being monitored. Linebacker Quay Walker is set to play after clearing concussion protocol.

The Lions claimed a crucial win in the tight NFC North battle when beating the Vikings 31-29 in Week 7, ending their rivals' unbeaten start to the year, and they look capable of putting themselves in position to win the division with another valuable road success against the banged-up Packers.

Sam LaPorta Over 40.5 receiving yards (-110)

Tight end Sam LaPorta made an instant impression in his rookie campaign with the Lions last season, contributing 1,065 yards including some key performances in the playoffs.

The former Iowa standout did not start this season at the same blazing pace but has picked up steam in recent outings. LaPorta has had 48 or more receiving yards in three of his last four games, catching all six of his targets against the Titans last week including a three-yard touchdown.

The Packers had trouble guarding the Jaguars' tight ends last week, with Brenton Strange and Evan Engram combining for nine receptions, 95 receiving yards and a touchdown, which bodes well for another strong performance from LaPorta.

Jahmyr Gibbs Longest Rush Over 15.5 (-120)

Jahmyr Gibbs broke a 70-yard run in the first quarter of the Lions' rout of the Titans last week but it was far from his first chunk play of the season. The second-year running back can be expected to post at least one rush of 16 yards or more on Sunday.

Gibbs has been held below that mark in just two of his first seven games, with a best of eight yards against the Rams and 15 against the Cowboys, but his other leading contributions in each game this season have been 24, 18, 20, 45 and 70 yards.
