Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Game 4: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Denver Nuggets kept this series within reach by winning in Minnesota on Friday night after losing the opening two matches in Denver and they could level things up on Sunday before heading back to Colorado at the start of next week.

It was a convincing 117-90 victory for Denver on Friday and they will be hopeful of building on that as there were signs they had finally found a way around the Timberwolves’ seemingly impenetrable defence, with their playoff experience likely to prove pivotal in the remainder of this series.

Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Game 4 betting picks and predictions

Denver Nuggets ML (+125)

The Nuggets had huge issues in breaking down the Timberwolves in the opening two games in this series, which is perhaps unsurprising given Minnesota had the best defensive rating in the regular season with a figure of 108.4, over two whole points higher than the next-best side.

Rudy Gobert earned his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award earlier this week and has performed well in this series, while Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid also played their part in limiting Denver’s superstars.

However, the reigning champions showed all of their experience in Game 3 as they landed a convincing victory in Minnesota and they seem to have found the key to unlocking a resolute defence.

Denver attempted less three-pointers in the third game than the previous two, but made them at a far higher rate. The Nuggets knocked down 48.3 percent of their efforts from beyond the arc in Minnesota, compared to 41.9 percent and 30 percent in Game 1 and Game 2 respectively, with their patience being rewarded at the Target Center.

Nikola Jokic - recently crowned the league’s MVP - is one of the best playmakers in the NBA and Michael Malone clearly instructed his center to be more patient with his passing and create more open looks, and that tactical switch could stand them in good stead in Game 4.

The Nuggets have won nine of their last 13 trips to the Target Center and after a convincing victory in Game 3, they look a big price to level the series up on Sunday.

Jamal Murray over 5.5 assists (-110)

Jokic is the Nuggets’ playmaker in chief and given his key role in the thrashing the Timberwolves received on Friday, head coach Chris Finch will have spent the past days leading up to this Game 4 by trying to find a way to limit the Serbian’s influence.

He may look to double up on the Denver center, which could cause the Nuggets to look for other playmakers to step up. Jamal Murray is the side’s point guard - albeit in an unconventional sense due to Jokic’s role as chief creator - and we could see an increase in his playmaking output on Sunday.

Murray has endured a difficult series so far, with 24 his best points return in the three games to date, and he has yet to notch more than five assists in a postseason game against the Timberwolves up to this point.

However, with Jokic likely to be focused on by Minnesota, with the likes of McDaniels and Athony Edwards set to be preoccupied, Murray may get more opportunities to find his teammates with incisive passes at the Target Center.

The Nuggets guard registered at least six assists in each of his three regular-season appearances against Minnesota, notching 11 in one of those clashes, and he could rediscover that creative touch in Game 4.

Karl-Anthony Towns to make 3 three-pointer milestone (+215)

Karl-Anthony Towns, unlike Murray, is one player who hasn’t struggled in this series. The Minnesota center-turned-power forward was pivotal in his side’s surge into a two-game lead and was one of the few Timberwolves who left the third match with his head held high.

Towns knocked down four of his five three-pointers in that heavy Game 3 defeat and his shooting has been excellent for the entirety of the series. He made two of his four attempts from beyond the arc in Game 1 before making three from five in the second match of the series.

A huge reason for his consistent level of shooting is the size advantage he has over his rivals. Previously a center, Towns has been moved to power forward to accommodate Gobert at the five, meaning he towers over the majority of his opponents.

He is 7ft tall, meaning he is a whole four inches taller than his usual marker throughout this series, Aaron Gordon. That gives Towns a huge advantage in avoiding blocks when shooting from range, and he could be set for another big night from beyond the arc on Sunday.

‘KAT’ has knocked down at least three three-pointers in five of his last nine appearances against Denver, and could showcase his excellent range at the Target Center once again as Minnesota aim to take a 3-1 lead in the series.
