The bet365 US Darts Masters returns to Madison Square Garden for the seventh edition of this tournament, which sees the world’s best take on the top players from North America.
The PDC has selected eight of their elite players to feature in the tournament, including world champion Luke Littler, world number one Luke Humphries and two-time US Darts Masters winner Michael van Gerwen.
Damon Heta and Stephen Bunting will be making their debuts, while last year’s winner Rob Cross returns to try and successfully retain his crown.
Matt Campbell, Jim Long, Danny Lauby and Jules van Dongen will represent North America, with PDC Tour Card holders Adam Sevada, Jason Brandon, Stowe Buntz and Leonard Gates all coming through qualifying to feature.
Canadian Jeff Smith reached the final of this competition two years ago but no North American player has ever won it so the eight-strong contingent will be desperate to change that.
The bet365 US Darts Masters is a rare tournament in that it is one that neither Luke Littler or Luke Humphries have won.
The English duo have dominated darts over the last 18 months and look set to do so for years to come. However, they are both on the comeback trail after a disappointing World Cup campaign which saw them team up, only to be dumped out in the second round by Germany.
Littler is catching world number one Humphries on the PDC Order of Merit and has taken the darting world by storm over the last few years.
‘The Nuke’ is still just 18-years-old but is the reigning world, UK Open, Grand Slam of Darts and World Series of Darts champion.
He was beaten by Humphries in the Premier League final recently but any setbacks just seem to spur the youngster on to achieve more greatness and he is a solid pick to win this event.
Littler was extremely unfortunate not to win last year’s edition, losing 7-6 to Gerwyn Price in the semi-final despite averaging 104. He averaged at least 103, considered well above average, in all three games he played at Madison Square Garden so is the man to beat this time around.
The Englishman already has two World Series events to his name and could add another with a win here.
Rob Cross lifted the bet365 US Darts Masters title last year and looks decent value to go back to back with another this time around.
Voltage secured a narrow victory over Gerwyn Price, winning 8-7 in the final 12 months ago, and he has impressed the World Series events so far this year, winning the Dutch Darts Masters and finishing as runner-up in the Nordic Darts Masters.
He has also already won a title on the Pro Tour this season and could retain his title in Madison Square Garden.
The chances that the North American contingent have of winning this year’s bet365 US Darts Masters are seen by the fact that Matt Campbell is the shortest-priced of them at +8000.
However, the Canadian has put in some solid performances recently, beating Stephen Bunting a few weeks ago, and he was runner-up in a Players Championship event last year.
Campbell can score well and if his finishing is strong, the world number 54 could outrun his massive odds.
