Pick, predictions and odds for Danny Garcia vs. Erislandy Lara in a WBA middleweight title fight from Las Vegas this Saturday, September 14.
Erislandy Lara faces Danny Garcia this Saturday night with Lara’s WBA middleweight title at stake in Las Vegas.
The bout pits two stalwarts of the sport’s recent against each other, with the contest taking place at a catchweight of 157lbs in order to suit the naturally smaller Garcia - who did most of his best work down at 140 and 147lbs.
With the obvious weight disparity in mind, Cuban maestro Lara is a rightful favorite at -375 ML. However, neither man has been particularly active in recent years, having boxed just three times between them since the start of 2021 (Lara twice, Garcia once).
Nevertheless, at 41-years-old, Lara can’t go on forever and, even with the physical advantages he enjoys over Garcia, he is facing arguably his best opponent since Brian Castaño in March 2019.
However, Garcia himself is hardly in fine form - and his odds of +215 reflect that; he has managed just three bouts since the beginning of 2020 with his heaviest weight being just under 153lbs. In short, he is inactive and undersized, but can he upset an ageing champion who himself is being made to cut an extra 3lbs from where he’s been competing?
It’s a compelling fight due to a lot of uncertainty around both fighters. For me, I feel the natural size, length and boxing skill of Erislandy Lara should be enough to see him cruise to a points win at an attractive price of +110 to win by Decision or Technical Decision.
Erislandy Lara to win by Decision/Technical Decision +110
