The Stars are now one win away from advancing to the third round of the NHL playoffs after pushing the Jets to the brink of elimination with a 3-1 victory in Game 4.
Mikael Granlund did all of the damage for the Stars in Game 4, netting his first career playoff hat trick. He also recorded two assists in Game 3 after being held pointless in the first two games of this series.
Mikko Rantanen increased his league-leading playoff total to 19 points with a primary assist on Granlund’s second goal. He now has four goals and three assists in the series, and is the co-favorite to win the Conn Smythe Award as the playoff MVP with +375 odds.
Dallas was also reinforced by the return of top defenseman Miro Heiskanen in Game 4. Heiskanen hadn’t played since late January due to a knee injury, but he looked impactful on Tuesday, recording an assist while playing nearly 15 minutes as he eased back into action. The 25-year-old averaged nearly 25 minutes of ice time per game during the regular season, so it’ll be interesting to see if the coaching staff increases his usage on Thursday to his typical level, or if they continue to deploy him in a more calculated manner.
It’s no secret Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has struggled mightily this postseason, but he has been much better at home than on the road in these playoffs, allowing just 2.16 goals per game at Canada Life Centre while shutting out the Stars in Game 2 at home.
