Dallas Stars: +600 Stanley Cup favorites after acquiring Mikko Rantanen

The Dallas Stars made a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Hurricanes to acquire star wing Mikko Rantanen on the day of the NHL's trade deadline.

As a result, the Stars are now +600 favorites to win the 2025 Stanley Cup.

Dallas gave up 22-year-old forward Logan Stankoven (nine goals, 20 assists this season) and a pair of first-round picks to get Rantanen, who has 27 goals and 43 assists for 70 points in 62 games this season.

Rantanen had started the season with the Colorado Avalanche, who decided to move him to Carolina as he was slated to enter free agency this offseason.

As part of his trade to the Stars, he signed a brand-new eight-year deal worth $96 million for an average annual value of $12 million.

Rantanen is in his 10th NHL season. He has five 30-goal seasons under his belt, including a career-high 55 goals in 2022/23 with the Avs.

The Finnish star now joins an already strong group of forwards in Dallas, which includes Jason Robertson, Matt Duchene, Roope Hintz, Wyatt Johnston, Evgenii Dadonov, Jamie Benn, and Mason Marchment, all of whom have at least 15 goals this season.

The Stars currently sit in second place in the Western Conference's Central Division, six points behind the Winnipeg Jets, but this trade signals that they are all-in on a Cup run this season.

In addition to their +600 Stanley Cup odds, the Stars are also +280 favorites to win the Western Conference and are +190 second-favorites to overtake the Jets and win the Central with 20 games left for Dallas and 19 left for Winnipeg.
