Dallas Mavericks vs. Boston Celtics Game 2: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Boston Celtics grabbed the initiative in their NBA Finals clash with the Dallas Mavericks with a convincing 107-89 win at home in Game 1. The teams are back at the TD Garden at 20:00 ET on Sunday night for Game 2.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Boston Celtics Game 2 betting picks and predictions

Celtics -7 (-110)

The Mavericks had a tough time in their first NBA Finals appearance for 13 years, losing 107-89 to the Celtics in the first game of the best-of-seven series in Boston.

It all looked much tougher for the Mavs than their match-ups with the Timberwolves in the previous round, and even when they reduced the deficit to eight points in the third quarter, Boston replied with a 14-0 run that left them cruising to victory.

The Mavericks can still split the first two games before the teams head to Texas for Game 3 on Wednesday, but there were few signs in the series opener that they are capable of hitting straight back.

Dallas's star man Luka Doncic was as impressive as usual, with 30 points in 38 minutes played, but if the Mavs couldn't even get close when they're getting that kind of production from Doncic there's not a huge amount of hope.

The Mavericks have reacted well to adversity this year and have won the game following each of their losses in this postseason, but they are playing a rampant Celtics team who are on an eight-game winning streak and have lost only one of their last 13 games.

Covering the spread is never as easy as winning the game but the Celtics won the first game by 18 points after taking their home games against the Pacers in the conference finals by five and 16 points and winning two of their three at home against the Cavaliers by 25 and 15 points.

The Celtics did lose Game 2 of their series against both the Heat and the Cavaliers, but they swept the Pacers and will be in no mood to ease up on Sunday night.

Over 214.5 points (-110)

The total points line for this game is almost 20 higher than the teams combined for in Game 1 but we can expect a better offensive performance from the Mavericks this time now they have had time to rethink their strategy.

They have come back with a better offensive showing after three of their four playoff losses this season, scoring 124, 119 and 123 points and one option open to them to change the way the series is going is to speed up their play, which clearly would lead to a higher total.

The Celtics should be able to outgun the Mavericks whatever new tactics they throw at them but the potential is there for a higher-scoring contest in Game 2.

Boston's Jayson Tatum is likely to improve on his 16 points in the opener, when the teams put up only 166 shots from the field between them.

Kristaps Porzingis over 15.5 points (-120)

Kristpas Porzingis was immensely impressive for the Celtics in Game 1, playing his first game since April after a calf injury. The Latvian star rolled for 20 points in only 21 minutes on the court after coming off the bench and he looks a good bet to score at least 16 in Game 2.

The Mavericks should again have few answers for the challenges the 7ft 3in Porzingis poses. He drained eight of his 13 attempts, including a pair of three-pointers in Game 1 and even if he doesn't start this time, Porzingis should have earned more time on the court than in his return appearance. He should be a key player for the Celtics again on Sunday night.
