Terence Crawford will attempt to become a world champion in a fourth weight division when he takes on Uzbek fighter Israil Madrimov in August.
The American Crawford is back in action for the first time in nearly a year following his victory over Errol Spence Jr last summer, while Madrimov fights again after claiming the vacant WBA super-welterweight title by beating Magomed Kurbanov in March.
The fight between Crawford and Madrimov will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Crawford vs. Madrimov is expected to begin around midnight ET on Sunday, August 4.
The start time for the card is 7 PM ET, so the exact timing for this fight is dependent on how previous fights on the card go.
Ring walks for Crawford vs. Madrimov are expected to take place around midnight ET on Sunday, August 4.
The fight will take place at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
The venue, which was opened in April 2018, was built primarily for soccer and is the home ground of MLS club Los Angeles FC.
The stadium can hold up to 22,000 spectators and has hosted boxing previously, staging the WBO junior featherweight title fight between Emanuel Navarrete and Francisco De Vaca in 2019.
There have also been several music concerts at the stadium since it was opened, with acts as diverse as Mumford and Sons, Guns 'N Roses, Iron Maiden and Swedish House Mafia all playing there.
Crawford vs. Madrimov will be shown on DAZN PPV and ESPN+ PPV.
There are two belts on the line for the eagerly awaited bout.
The victor will take the vacant WBO interim super-welterweight title, while Madrimov is defending his WBA super-welterweight title.
Crawford remains unbeaten after 40 fights. The 36-year-old’s superb record has seen him win 31 of those bouts by KO and he remains one of the most feared boxers on the planet.
Last year he was ranked as the world's best active boxer, pound for pound, by The Ring, the Boxing Writers Association of America, the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, ESPN and BoxRec.
After turning pro in 2008, Crawford immediately caught the eye and recorded early victories over the likes of Aaron Anderson, Miguel Delgado and Ron Boyd, among others.
He won the WBO lightweight title when he defeated Ricky Burns in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014, and continued his rise to prominence when beating Viktor Postol in Las Vegas two years later, securing the WBC and the then-vacant The Ring light welterweight titles.
Further memorable successes followed over Felix Diaz and Jose Benavidez Jr, while British duo Amir Khan and Kell Brook both proved no match for the American in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Crawford retained his WBO welterweight title against Shawn Porter via TKO in November 2021, then did so again when knocking out David Avanesyan a year later.
In his most recent appearance last July, Crawford was at his awesome best when he overcame the considerable challenge of Errol Spence Jr in front of nearly 20,000 fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Crawford dominated and won the fight by a ninth-round technical knockout, thus becoming the first undisputed welterweight champion since 2006, and the first male boxer in the four-belt era to claim undisputed championship status in two weight divisions.
Madrimov is by far the more inexperienced of the two and only turned professional in 2018. He has won 10 of his 11 fights to date, seven by KO, with his one draw coming against Michael Soro in July 2022.
In November 2018 he first won the vacant WBA Inter-Continental super-welterweight title thanks to a sixth-round technical knockout victory over Vladimir Hernandez in New Jersey.
Madrimov has claimed notable scalps since, in particular when beating Alejandro Barrera in October 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
He beat Soro in their original meeting in December 2021, before the rematch the following summer was declared a technical draw following a clash of heads in the third round which cut Soro near the left eye rendering him unable to continue.
Last time out in March, he impressed in Saudi Arabia when stopping Kurbanov in the fifth round to pick up the vacant WBA super-welterweight title, and his tough upcoming clash with Crawford is his first defence of that belt.
Crawford is the -800 favorite for the fight, while Madrimov is the +500 underdog.
