The Colorado Avalanche franchise was founded in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques of the World Hockey Association and offically became the Colorado Avalanche on August 10, 1995.
Immediately after relocating to Denver the team won their first Stanley Cup in 1995-1996, sweeping the Florida Panthers in the final.
The Avalanche play their home games at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado and share the stadium with the Denver Nuggets (NBA) and Colorado Mammoth (NLL).
In recent years, the Avalanche lifted the Stanley Cup for the third time in 2022, led by stars Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Both remain on the roster in 2026, and the franchise has continued to compete at an elite level hoping to make another deep playoff run this season.
