The first full Saturday of the 2026 college football season is headlined by a showdown between the Clemson Tigers and LSU Tigers.
Playing at home, LSU is understandably a sizable favorite. However, off-field distractions have reached new heights in the bayou and Clemson is an opponent that should not be discounted. This has all the makings to produce early-season drama in primetime.

Clemson Tigers +10.5 (-115)
LSU have had to deal with off-field distractions in recent days and that cannot be a good thing for Lane Kiffin's team.
When you are dealing with a wildly different roster, building chemistry is key, but it's not an easy thing to do right away in the formative stages of the season. It's even more difficult when some players won't even be on the field. Even though Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris are officially eligible, Kiffin has not rostered them for this game.
Clemson has endured plenty of roster turnover itself, but the constant is head coach Dabo Swinney. He has led the orange and purple to multiple national championships – something Kiffin is still trying to accomplish even once. And it's not like Swinney is devoid of talent on his 2026 roster.
Offensively, the visitors boast two of the best wide receivers in the ACC in the form of Bryant Wesco Jr. and T.J. Moore.
In what is a fluid situation for the favorites, giving 10.5 points in a season opener against a well-respected opponent seems unwise.

The under correlates nicely with Clemson covering, because the visitors would be unlikely to keep up with LSU in a shootout.
Clemson lost some of its best pieces from last year's roster, including quarterback Cade Klubnik and multiple experienced offensive linemen.
In the aftermath of Klubnik's departure, the visitors' QB situation is less than ideal at the moment. Christopher Vizzina, who arrived on campus in 2023, finally has the starting job after fending off true freshman Tait Reynolds.
Vizzina played well when he got a chance against SMU last year, but it's safe to say that he is unproven.
Fortunately for these ACC representatives, they may not have to score a ton of points to be successful on Saturday. That's because their defense is expected to be stout.
Wade Woodaz, T.J. Parker and Peter Woods are gone, but Clemson returns plenty of veterans like defensive end Will Heldt, linebacker Sammy Brown and cornerback Ashton Hampton.
From a statistical perspective, the defense returns more than 61 percent of its 2025 production.
LSU's offense is led by quarterback Sam Leavitt, who has taken over for Garrett Nussmeier. Leavitt was Arizona State's starter the past two years and put up good numbers, but the competition level was unspectacular at best – certainly lacklustre compared to what he will face this weekend.
In his last two games against Texas Tech and Houston, Leavitt completed only 56.1 per cent of his passes and tossed just two touchdowns combined in those two outings.
All things considered, the under looks like the way to go.
Gideon Davidson Over 49.5 rushing yards (-130)
In a game in which they are considerable underdogs in a hostile environment while being led by an unproven quarterback, Clemson are likely to keep the ball on the ground and control the clock. That means Gideon Davidson, Clemson's RB1, is expected to see a heavy workload.
The sophomore rushed 60 times for 260 yards last season, so he is not a complete novice.
