Charlotte FC welcome Orlando City in a meeting that promises goals, attacking momentum and another closely fought contest.
Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina has made history this season, becoming the first MLS goalkeeper since Joe Cannon in 2004 to record 150 regular-season saves. His contribution could prove important against an Orlando side that has scored in all 19 matches since the start of August.
The hosts also bring considerable attacking form into the fixture. Idan Toklomati has found the net in five consecutive MLS matches — the longest scoring run in Charlotte’s history — while Charlotte have scored 12 goals across their last five league games.
Recent meetings in Charlotte have been particularly difficult to separate, with the last four finishing level. That pattern could continue, especially given the form of both attacks.
Orlando are unbeaten in five matches and have scored 14 goals during that run. Antoine Griezmann has also registered a goal or assist in 12 successive regular-season games, making him one of the key players for Charlotte to contain.
However, Orlando’s defensive record offers Charlotte encouragement. They have not kept a clean sheet in eight matches and conceded 15 goals in their last five MLS away games. Charlotte will look to exploit those weaknesses, with Toklomati and the home side’s in-form attack likely to play a central role.
With both teams scoring freely and neither defence appearing entirely secure, another entertaining contest could be in store — although recent history suggests the points may once again be shared.
