The Los Angeles Chargers (11-6) will visit the Houston Texans (10-7) in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs.
The Chargers have experienced a resurgence in year one under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Not only did LA win 11 games and reach the playoffs for just the third time since 2013, but they look the most complete team to be assembled around franchise QB Justin Herbert.
For years, the gripe with the pre-Harbaugh era Chargers was they were all flash and no fight, a brand of football that typically falls flat come playoff time. That isn’t the case this year, as LA has primarily relied on the run game and its defense to win games.
Despite having a better record than their Wild Card foes, the Chargers will travel to NRG Stadium to face the AFC South champion Texans, a team with high hopes entering 2024, but tempered ones entering these playoffs.
Led by standout second-year QB C.J. Stroud, Houston did enough to win their division, but stumbled in the latter half of the year due to injuries to star wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell and key members of the defense Jalen Pitre and Jimmie Ward.
Houston started 6-2 then lost five of nine games to close the season.
