Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Rangers: 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs second-round series odds

The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers, the teams that earned the most regular season points in the Eastern Conference, meet in the second round of the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Hurricanes finished three points behind the Presidents' Trophy-winning Rangers in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers are trying to avoid the Presidents' Trophy curse while the 'Canes are aiming for their first Stanley Cup since 2006.

New York swept the Washington Capitals in the first round, while Carolina beat the New York Islanders 4-1 to advance.

The Rangers had the stingiest defense in the first round as they allowed just seven goals for a 1.75 goals against average. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin posted a .931 save percentage in the four wins over the Caps.

Carolina has been one of the top offenses in the postseason with 3.8 goals per game, spearheaded by three goals from both Seth Jarvis and Stefan Noesen.

Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Rangers playoff history

The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers have met in two previous postseason series, which both took place within the past five seasons.

The first series between the teams was during the pandemic-shortened 2019/20 season, where the 'Canes beat the Rangers 3-0 in the qualifying round that took place before the first round.

Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov led the way with three goals apiece, and the 17 goals the 'Canes scored in those three games in 2020 were more than they scored in the seven-game series the teams played in 2022.

The Rangers beat the Hurricanes 4-3 in the 2022 Eastern Conference second round. New York came back from a 2-0 deficit, scoring just one goal in those first two games, and Filip Chytl and Mika Zibanejad led the way with four goals each.

Carolina never scored more than two goals in a game in that series, and it came back to bite them once the Rangers found the back of the net with regularity starting in Game 3. The 2022 series was Vincent Trochek's final playoff series with the 'Canes before he signed with the Rangers.
