Canelo Alvarez will look to become the undisputed middleweight champion once again when he takes on William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on May 3rd.

Alvarez had won the undisputed title in 2021, but he was stripped of the IBF belt in 2024 after he elected to fight Edgar Berlanga instead of the mandatory challenger, Scull.

The 34-year-old is the former undisputed super-middleweight champion and Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith, Sergey Kovalev, Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Caleb Plant, Miguel Cotto and Gennady Golovkin are just a few of the boxers to fall at the gloves of the Mexican.

William Scull record

William Scull has an undefeated 23-0 record entering his fight against Canelo Alvarez.

Scull, who was born in Cuba and fights out of Berlin, Germany, turned pro in November 2016 and won his first two fights via knockout. He then won each of his ensuing four fights by unanimous decision.

He fought four times in 2018, earning knockout wins in three of those fights. He had another four fights in 2019, winning three by unanimous decision and one by sixth-round TKO in a 12-round bout.

In his second-ever bout scheduled for 12 rounds, Scull went the distance and won via unanimous decision against Gino Kanters in Germany. He won his next two fights via second-round KO.

Since 2022, he has fought five times and won each bout via unanimous decision. He had his first fight in the United States on May 4th, 2024, where he beat Sean Hemphill in an eight-round bout on the undercard of Canelo vs. Jaime Munguia.
