Canelo Alvarez Odds to Win vs. William Scull in May 3 fight

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will meet William Scull for the undisputed middleweight championship on Saturday from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Canelo is a massive -3300 favorite to defeat the little-known Scull, who earned the opportunity to face the legendary Mexican fighter by winning the vacant IBF super middleweight title over Vladimir Shishkin via unanimous decision in October 2024 – a belt previously held by Alvarez from 2021 to 2024.

The odds indicate Scull, a 32-year-old fighter from Matanzas, Cuba, has little chance to pose problems for Canelo on Saturday night.

Canelo is one of the greatest boxers of all-time and remains one of the pound-for-pound kings in the sport. His 62-2-2 professional record speaks for itself, the only losses coming at the hands of Dmitry Bivol (via unanimous decision in May 2022) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (via majority decision in Sep. 2013). Since losing to Bivol, Canelo has won five-straight fights all by unanimous decision.

On Saturday night, Alvarez is +140 to win by decision or technical decision, while an Alvarez victory by KO, TKO or DQ is priced at -188.

While the 34-year-old has far more experience and know-how than his opponent Scull, the Cuban does hold a 23-0 professional record with nine KOs.

Of note is the unique location of Saturday’s fight, particularly for Canelo.

This bout will mark the 11th time the Mexican has fought on Cinco de Mayo weekend, and the first fight of his professional career outside of Mexico or the United States. The rapid rise of Riyadh Season, Saudia Arabia’s sports and entertainment division, and the influence of chairman Turki Alalshikh brought Alvarez to fight in Saudi Arabia.

In fact, Alvarez has signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, with this weekend’s bout vs. Scull marking the first before the focus turns to a potential superfight between Canelo and four-weight world champion Terence Crawford in September 2025.
