Alvarez comes into this fight with a professional boxing record of 61-2-2. Making his boxing debut in October of 2005, Alvarez quickly made a name for himself, winning 23 of his first 24 fights with the other fight being a draw.

This led to Alvarez earning his first title fight in January of 2009, where he won the North American Boxing Federation Welterweight title.
