Pick, predictions and odds for Caleb Plant vs. Trevor McCumby in a WBA interim super middleweight title fight from Las Vegas this Saturday, September 14.
Caleb Plant takes on Trevor McCumby on Saturday night knowing that a loss could prove fatal for his career at the top level of the sport.
A former IBF super-middleweight champion, Plant has come up short in his two biggest tests against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and David Benavidez. However, on Saturday night, he faces an opponent far, far beneath that level - which is reflected in Plant’s ML price of -1400.
McCumby is undefeated, but at what level? Of his 28 wins, 21 have come inside the distance, but he has yet to step up anywhere near to the level of a Caleb Plant and, again, his own ML price of +750 reiterates that.
While not the biggest puncher in the division, Plant does carry enough pop to gain respect, and his highlight reel KO of Anthony Dirrell back in October 2022 is a brutal reminder of the power he is capable of producing.
However, for me, in his first fight in 18 months, the price of +220 for Caleb Plant to win by Decision/Technical Decision is too good to pass up.
I’m relying on the relatively-unknown McCumby being tough enough to stick it out, but we’ve seen Plant fade and coast to decision wins in the past and at +220, I’ll be looking for him to do the same on Saturday night.
Caleb Plant by Decision/Technical Decision +220
