Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark faced stiff competition for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Award in recent weeks, but she separated herself in the odds with a record-breaking performance.
Clark posted 24 points, six rebounds and a new WNBA single-game record of 19 assists in Indiana's matchup against the Dallas Wings on Wednesday, July 17.
Five-time WNBA All-Star Courtney Vandersloot held the previous record of 18 assists in a game, which she accomplished for the Chicago Sky in 2020.
Clark's Rookie of the Year odds are now -1100 as a result of her performance, despite Indiana losing 101-93.
Clark's main rival for the award is Angel Reese, the Sky forward who had a streak of 15 straight games with a double-double snapped this week. Reese is the second-favorite for Rookie of the Year at +650.
Reese averages 13.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.4 blocks while shooting 40.2 percent from the field in a less ball-dominant role compared to Clark. Reese is the Sky's leading rebounder and third-leading scorer.
Clark leads her team with averages of 17.1 points, 8.2 assists and 1.5 steals. She also grabs 5.8 rebounds per game and shoots 40.5 percent overall and 32.7 percent from three.
The two Rookie of the Year favorites will team up for Team WNBA in the All-Star Game against Team USA on Saturday, July 20. Their teams face off for the final time in the regular season on August 30, and the Fever enter with a 2-1 season series lead.
