Women's college basketball star Caitlin Clark was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Clark drew national headlines for her play as the point guard of Iowa, where she won two Wooden Awards, two AP Player of the Year Awards, and three Big Ten Conference Player of the Year Awards.
In her senior season in 2023/24, Clark led all Division I women's college basketball players in points and assists per game, averaging 31.6 and 8.9 respectively, as well as 7.4 rebounds per game.
Clark will join forces with 2023 No. 1 overall pick Aliyah Boston on the Fever.
The Iowa standout was selected ahead of former Stanford forward Cameron Brink, former South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso, former Tennessee forward Rickea Jackson, and former Ohio State guard Jacy Sheldon in the top five of the 2024 draft.
On her rookie-scale WNBA contract, Caitlin Clark will make $338,056 over four years.
2024: $76,535
2025: $78,066
2026: $85,873
2027 (fourth-year option): $97,582
Clark joins the Indiana Fever, who finished 13-27 in the 2023 WNBA season. The Fever's Regular Season Wins line for 2024 is set at 22.5, which projects the team to have a winning percentage over .500 for the league's 40-game season.
In 2023, guard Kelsey Mitchell led the team in scoring with 18.2 points per game, followed by NaLyssa Smith with 15.5 points per game and 2023 top pick Aliyah Boston with 14.5 points per game.
Veteran guard Erica Wheeler led the team in assists with 5.0 per game, and Clark is likely to take her place in the starting lineup.
The Fever brought in forward Katie Lou Samuelson in the offseason, and the 6-foot-3 forward will form a skilled partnership with Boston in the paint which should in turn create space on the perimeter for Clark.
Caitlin Clark enters the 2024 season with +1100 odds to win WNBA MVP, the fourth-shortest odds in the WNBA.
Her odds are longer than only two-time MVP A'ja Wilson at +170, reigning MVP Breanna Stewart at +450, and last season's league leader in assists and rebounds Alyssa Thomas at +850.
