Buffalo (8-4) will meet Liberty (8-3) in the 2024 Bahamas Bowl on Saturday, January 4.
Liberty has been one of the nation's best non-power conference teams since joining the FBS in 2018, so to end up in this spot following a 10-1 season in 2023 is a but of a surprise.
The Flames won't be helped by the current state of opt-outs and transfers in modern day college football as well, with starting QB Kaidon Salter (transfer to Colorado) and star RB Quinton Cooley (NFL Draft) set to miss this game altogether.
Instead, Liberty will start QB Ryan Burger, who has thrown a total of 24 passes in three years of college football.
On the other side, Buffalo will come to the Bahamas with all but three players from their 2024 roster, and all of their starters and key players.
The Bulls most recently won the Camellia Bowl in 2022 and 2020, as well as the Bahamas Bowl in 2019 while under head coach Lance Leipold. Pete Lembo, in his first year as HC, achieved the most wins by a first-year HC in Buffalo history.
