Denver head coach Vic Fangio has warned his Broncos defense to be wary of "super slot" Hunter Renfrow and his chemistry with Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr when they face the Raiders later on Sunday.
A win for the 10/11 Broncos at Allegiant Stadium would boost their flagging playoff hopes and dent those of a direct rival with the Raiders sharing the same 7-7 record but ahead of Denver on strength of schedule.
Former Clemson star Renfrow needs only six receptions to join Tyreek Hill, Marques Colston, Stefon Diggs and George Kittle as the only players drafted in the fifth round or later to reach 200-plus catches and 2000-plus yards in their first three seasons in NFL.
His impact for the Raiders this season has been such that he also needs only 10 receptions to surpass Amari Cooper for the most by a Raiders player in his first three seasons since the merger.
And, in the week he missed out on Pro Bowl selection but was named an alternate, another 91 receiving yards on Sunday would make him the first Raiders wide receiver to record at least 1,000 receiving yards since 2016.
"Renfrow's a super slot, " Broncos head coach Fangio told reporters, via raiders.com. "He's really tough to cover and really quick. He's a favourite of Carr's. They have good chemistry together."
"He's a guy who's a Swiss Army knife for them," added Broncos safety Justin Simmons. "They plug him and put him anywhere. Whether it's against a DB, or a linebacker, he finds ways to get open in man and in zone."
