21-1 (13 KOs)
Lopez began his professional career in November 2016 as a lightweight and he quickly developed a reputation as one of the big hitters in that division, winning his opening 14 fights before landing his first world title shot against Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden in December 2019.
Commey's IBF lightweight title was on the line, but Lopez blew the champion away, claiming a second-round TKO victory.
Next up for Lopez was a chance to unify the division against Vasiliy Lomachenko in October 2020, and despite being the underdog, he claimed a unanimous decision victory over the Ukrainian.
With the world at his feet, it was then a huge shock that Lopez lost his titles and suffered the first defeat of his career in his very next fight against George Kambosos, losing via split decision, a result that prompted his step up to super lightweight.
The 27-year-old beat Pedro Campa and Sandor Martin in his first two super lightweight contests to earn him a shot at the WBO and The Ring titles against Josh Taylor in June 2023.
Lopez beat Taylor via unanimous decision to become a two-weight world champion and he has since defended his titles against Jamaine Ortiz and most recently Steve Claggett, who took him the distance, in June 2024.
Overall, Lopez has won 21 and lost only one of his 22 professional fights, with 13 of his successes coming by knockout.
32-0 (11 KOs)
Barboza Jr. had his first professional fight in June 2013 and he went on to claim plenty of victories, 19 of them to be exact, before he earned a shot at the vacant WBC-NABF junior super lightweight title in December 2018.
The Californian beat Manuel Damairias Lopez to land that belt and he continued to claim victories, notably beating Alex Saucedo in October 2020 to earn the WBO International super lightweight title.
The 33-year-old picked up the WBO Inter-Continental super lightweight title two fights later against Danielito Zorrilla before claiming further victories over the likes of Jose Pedraza, Sean McComb and Jose Ramirez.
Those wins landed Barboza Jr. a shot at the WBO Interim super lightweight title against Britain's Jack Catterall in February of this year, but it was one that he was not expected to win.
However, Barboza Jr. defied the odds, beating Catterall in his own backyard in Manchester by split decision to land him this opportunity to fight for a world title for the very first time.
Barboza Jr. has won all 32 of his professional fights to date, although only 11 of those victories have come by knockout.
