19-2-1 (9 KOs)
Robson Conceicao enjoyed an impressive amateur career that culminated in him landing the gold medal in the lightweight category in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The Brazilian made his professional debut later that same year, seeing off the 4-2-2 Clay Burns via unanimous decision in a six-round affair in Las Vegas.
Four of Conceicao’s first five fights came against opponents with winning records and he made a step up in his sixth bout by facing the previously unbeaten Ignacio Holguin, claiming a points win.
The 35-year-old put together an 11-0 record before returning to Brazil for his first professional fight in his homeland, where he claimed a stunning first-round win over Sergio Ariel Estrela.
Conceicao was 16-0 when he secured a first world title shot but he fell short, losing via unanimous decision to Oscar Valdez in 2021.
The following year he was outpointed by Shakur Stevenson when challenging for the WBC and WBO belts and in 2023 he failed to take a title away from Emanuel Navarrete as that bout was judged to be a draw, before he claimed a split decision win over Foster to finally secure a world title.
22-3 (12 KOs)
Foster made his debut in 2012 with a first-round stoppage of Theo Johnson in Robstown, Texas.
The American put together an 8-0 record but suffered an early setback in his career in his ninth fight, losing via unanimous decision to Samuel Teah.
Foster responded to that loss with a pair of stoppage wins, against journeyman Rynell Griffin and then the previously unbeaten Lavisas Williams, but was dealt a further setback in his 11th bout as he lost via split decision to Rolando Chinea when attempting to step up in class.
The 31-year-old spent around 18 months out of the ring after that defeat but made a strong comeback, stopping Andrew Goodrich in the first round in December of 2017 and then less than a month later he outpointed Kaylyn Alfred.
In 2018 Foster recorded a huge win by beating the 16-0 Jon Fernandez by unanimous decision and a year later claimed the WBC Silver super featherweight strap by seeing off Alberto Mercardo on points.
He defended that title by stopping the experienced Miguel Roman and a win over the 18-0 Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov earned Foster his first world title shot, against the 36-0 Rey Vargas.
Vargas held a belt at a lower weight class and went into the bout for the WBC title as the slight favourite, but Foster dominated for large periods and won via unanimous decision.
Foster successfully defended the title against Eduardo Hernandez (12th round TKO) and Abraham Nova (split decision) before a split decision loss to Conceicao, which he now has an immediate chance to avenge.
Conceicao may have won the first fight but he goes into the bout as the +300 underdog, with Foster rated at -400 favorite.
