Richardson Hitchins makes the first defense of his IBF world super lightweight title on June 14 with a hometown bout against George Kambosos Jr.
Hitchins vs. Kambosos is the headline event in a quality card at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
Hitchins is the clear favorite, but Kambosos Jr is a former unified lightweight champion and has shared the ring with some of the world’s best and he now has the distinction of being Vasiliy Lomachenko’s final opponent after the Ukrainian legend called time on his career recently.

Born in Brooklyn, Hitchins enjoyed an impressive amateur career and represented Haiti, the county of his parents' birth, at the 2016 Olympics after failing to qualify for the US team.
Hitchins made his debut in 2017 with a first round TKO win over Mario Alberto Perez Navarro and put together a 6-0 record before making a step up in class by taking on the 10-3-1 Tre'Sean Wiggins.
He survived a knockdown in the seventh round of the eight-round contest and went on to win by unanimous decision.
Between 2019 and 2021 Hitchins began a serious rise up the rankings by outpointing Kevin Johnson, Nicholas DeLomba and experienced duo Argenis Mendez and Malik Hawkins.
The Brooklybn-native claimed the IBF North American title at 140lbs by stopping Yomar Alamo, then followed that up with a shutout decision win over the previously unbeaten John Bauza.
In 2023, Hitchins sent out a big statement by claiming a unanimous decision win over three-time world title challenger Jose Zepeda.
The Clinchman overcame Gustavo Daniel Lemos via unanimous decision in an IBF eliminator fight, although the result was a little controversial as Lemos was the more aggressive of the two fighters and that earned him his first world title shot.
Hitchins outpointed Australia’s Liam Paro in Puerto Rico to secure a world title at his first attempt in December 2024 via split decision, in another controversial call, although this time most observers felt the win should have been unanimous.

Kambosos Jr is a former unified champion at lightweight and is bidding to become a two-weight world champion by dethroning Hitchins in New York.
As a youngster Kambosos Jr showed promise in Rugby League, but opted to focus on boxing and won 85 of his 100 amateur fights before moving to the professional ranks as a 19-year-old in 2013, beating journeyman Jayson Mac Gura via second round TKO in his debut.
Kambosos Jr put together a 10-0 record before making a step up in class by taking on Brandon Ogilvie for the WBA Oceania lightweight title.
The Australian fought three times in 2019, picking up wins over Rey Perez, Richard Pena and Mikey Bey, and in 2020 he faced Lee Selby in an IBF eliminator bout.
Kambosos overcame the former IBF featherweight champion by split decision in London, setting up a showdown with champion Teofimo Lopez.
In a huge upset, Kambosos Jr claimed a split decision won over Lopez at the Madison Square Garden Theater - the same venue where he will take on Hitchins - to land the IBF and WBO belts.
Ferocious lost his titles in his first defence, however, as he was outpointed by Devin Haney in Melbourne and he then lost comprehensively again on points in a rematch.
He responded by beating Maxi Hughes to claim the IBO title but was then stopped in the 11th by Lomachenko.
That was his last bout at lightweight as Kambosos Jr moved up to the 140lbs mark for his last bout, a decision win over compatriot Jake Wyllie.
