Mikaela Mayer vs. Sandy Ryan: Picks, Predictions and Odds

WBO welterweight champion Mikaela Mayer will reignite her rivalry with British fighter Sandy Ryan when the pair face each other for a second time this weekend.

Mayer snatched Ryan's WBO title away from her in September 2024 after winning via majority decision at Madison Square Garden in New York.

That fight was marred by the build-up, with Ryan having paint thrown over her as she left her hotel for the fight. The build-up was personal, with Ryan saying the incident disrupted her and she has vowed to get revenge at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas.

Ryan called for an immediate rematch after the first contest and she has her wish, with the contest promising to be closely fought, as both fighters are priced at -115 to win.

Mikaela Mayer vs. Sandy Ryan betting picks and predictions

Mikaela Mayer to win (-115)

American boxer Mayer produced one of the best performances of her career to win her first welterweight world title in September.

The 34-year-old has an elite amateur background, having competed for the U.S. at the 2016 Olympics.

She turned pro the following year and raced to 17-0 by 2022, winning the IBF, WBO and The Ring super featherweight world titles along the way.

Mayer tasted defeat in London in October 2022 for the first time, losing all of her world titles to Alycia Baumgardner on points.

She has since shared the ring with Liverpool's Natasha Jonas and Ryan, and her resume is starting to speak for itself.

In the first fight with Ryan, Mayer used her height and reach to outscore her rival and she is going to need to perform to a higher level this time around. Ryan has vowed to learn from her mistakes, claiming she was too aggressive in the first contest due to the rivalry between the pair.

The English fighter is relatively inexperienced, though, compared to Mayer. While Ryan has won a world title, she has only had nine fights. Mayer has 22 fights to her name since turning professional, and that extra ringcraft and confidence will help her when things get tough in Las Vegas.

Their first fight last year was intriguing, but Mayer should be able to do enough in the rematch.

Her 66-inch reach allows her to keep opponents at bay, and while Ryan has vowed to learn her lessons, Mayer can do the same.

Mayer will have studied the first fight relentlessly and, on home soil, she should have her hand raised in what could be another relentless contest.

Mikaela Mayer to win by decision or technical decision (+120)

If Mayer is to win, she is going to need to come through adversity and handle some tough exchanges.

Ryan will feel that she cannot let this fight go to the scorecards, but that is easier said than done. The Brit only has three stoppage victories to her name since turning professional in 2021.

More importantly, two of them came at the start of her career, but she did do enough to stop Terri Harper to win her first world title in March 2024.

Ryan is not known for her knockout power, and neither is Mayer. The California native has only won five fights by knockout and there's every chance these two trade leather for the full 10 rounds.
