Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Streaming giant Netflix will broadcast the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card worldwide, including this welterweight showdown.
The fight is not a pay-per-view event but does require a Netflix subscription.
Mario Barrios is defending his WBC world welterweight title for the first time as full champion. Barrios was previously the interim holder but was elevated due to doubts that Terence Crawford would come back down to welterweight after beating Israil Madrimov to become a super welterweight world champion.
29-2 (18 KOs)
Mario Barrios made his debut with a first-round win over Rigoberto Moreno in San Antonio in 2013.
The Texan put together an 11-0 record before making a step up in class as he faced the 9-2-2 Eduardo Rivera, winning that bout inside the first round.
Barrios continued to pick up victories and a run of stoppages against Jose Roman, Richard Zamora and Juan Jose Velasco set up a bout with the unbeaten Russian stoppage specialist Batyr Akhmedov for the vacant WBA (Regular) super lightweight title on the undercard of Errol Spence Jr. vs. Shawn Porter.
Barrios won by unanimous decision in a bruising encounter and followed that up by beating Ryan Karl, but he suffered back-to-back losses in his next two fights as he was stopped by Gervonta Davis before being outpointed by Keith Thurman.
El Azteca has picked up three wins in a row since his defeat to Thurman and claimed the interim WBC belt by beating Yordenis Ugas on points in September of 2023.
Barrios was last in action in May, as he outpointed Argentina’s Fabian Andres Maidana on the Canelo vs Jaime Munguia card.
28-6-2 (9 KOs)
Abel Ramos has been a professional since 2011 and he opened his career with a 16-0-2 record before suffering a first defeat in 2015, when he was stopped in the eighth round by future super lightweight world champion Regis Prograis.
The 33-year-old put together a three-fight winning run before coming up short against another future world champion, the then-unbeaten Ivan Baranchyk, as he lost via unanimous decision. Ramos won on his comeback but then lost again to Jamal James and embarked on a serious rebuild, picking up five wins over journeyman fighters before stepping back up in class to take on the 25-6-1 Francisco Santana.
Santana put Ramos down in the second round but he recovered and claimed a win on points.
However, Ramos goes into this fight in poor form with three defeats in his last five fights, although those losses have come against quality operators in Yordenis Ugas, Luke Santamaria and Cody Crowley.
Ramos was last in action in April as he stopped Juan Ramon Guzman in the fifth round.
