Keyshawn Davis vs. Edwin de los Santos: Tale of the Tape

Keyshawn Davis makes the first defence of his WBO lightweight world title against Edwin de los Santos at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday night.

Davis is a former Olympic silver medalist and the Businessman captured the WBO title in just his 13th professional contest.

De Los Santos came up short when challenging Shakur Stevenson for the WBC world lightweight strap last time out, but the Dominican gets another crack at the top level of the sport.

Who will prevail in Virginia? Let's look at the 'Tale of the Tape'...

Keyshawn Davis profile

13-0-0 (9 KOs)

Keyshawn Davis only turned to the professional ranks in 2021, but it hasn't taken the American long to make an impact at the top level of the sport.

The Businessman has made smooth progress since his debut against Lester Brown in Miami and it's 13-0 for the WBO lightweight world champion.

The 26-year-old stepped up to take on Juan Carlos Burgos to win the WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title in only his seventh pro fight and the former Olympic silver medalist continues to pick up belts.

The USNBC lightweight title followed when beating Anthony Yigit in 2023 and the IBF–USBA lightweight title was captured with a knockout success over Jose Pedraza.

Davis gradually moved up in class with victories over Miguel Madueno and Gustavo Daniel Lemos last year, and all the while, the American was building his ranking with the WBO.

Promoters Top Rank took a golden opportunity to face Denys Berinchyk for the WBO world lightweight title in February and Davis made no mistake in taking his chance.

The Businessman stopped the Ukrainian champion in the fourth round of their Madison Square Garden clash, and Berinchyk had previously gotten the better of the impressive Emanuel Navarrete.

Perhaps the Ukrainian is a little short of being a top-level world champion, but either way, Davis has passed every test that has been put in front of him to this point, and the Businessman will be looking to go to work again on Saturday night.

Edwin de los Santos profile

16-2-0 (14 KOs)

Edwin de los Santos enters Saturday night's fight with a 16-2 record, and 14 of his wins come via knockout. The Dominican has his second crack at a world title after unsuccessfully challenging Stevenson for the WBC world lightweight strap in 2023.

The Grenade is a heavy-hitting southpaw and there are decent victories over Jose Valenzuela and Joseph Adorno on the 25-year-old's card.

The bout with Stevenson failed to live up to expectations with few punches thrown in a fairly tepid contest, but De los Santos wasn't disgraced against an elite-level performer and the Dominican is certainly a skilful fighter.

The Grenade has previously appeared to be a speedy and accurate performer who unleashed sharp combinations from the southpaw stance, but that reputation was gained against low-level opposition, and those talents were not on view in the defeat to Stevenson.

It's possible for De los Santos to regroup and offer more against Davis, but the Dominican returns from a 19-month break in Virginia and that's another question for the Grenade to answer.
