Jaime Munguia vs. Bruno Surace will be broadcast on DAZN PPV.
Jaime Munguia is a former WBO super-welterweight champion, but there will be no titles on the line in Saudi Arabia.
The Mexican also faced Canelo Alvarez for the IBF, WBO and WBC super-middleweight belts last year, but came up short in Las Vegas.
Bruno Surace scored a shock success over Munguia in December, and the winner of the Saudi contest will be targeting a world title shot later this year.
The first bout between the pair saw Surace score a shock stoppage victory over Munguia.
The Frenchman wasn’t given much chance of success challenging Munguia in his home country of Mexico and things appeared to be following the script when Surace was dropped to the canvas by a left hook in round two.
However, Surace absorbed further punches, before landing combinations of his own and the fight dramatically swung in favor of the 26-year-old in round six.
Surace landed a thunderous right hand, which knocked Munguia to the floor, and while the Mexican got to his feet before the count, the referee decided that the Tijuana fighter was not fit to continue.
The Frenchman was a huge underdog in Mexico and his victory was voted ESPN’s upset of the year.
44-2 (35 KOs)
Jaime Munguia is a former WBO super-welterweight champion, who moved up the divisions to chase prize fights.
The Mexican was 41-0 with 33 of his victories coming by knockout when making the decision to step up to the 168lbs weight category.
'Rambo' didn’t convince in his first fight at super-middleweight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, but then went on to stop John Ryder.
That victory set up a clash with Canelo Alvarez, but the 28-year-old was outpointed by the Mexican great.
The Tijuana fighter recovered to beat Erik Bazinyan last year and was expected to record another straight forward victory against Bruno Surace in December. However, that bout didn’t go to plan and Munguia was on the wrong end of a huge upset in Mexico.
The Mexican must now beat Surace in the rematch to resurrect his career.
28-0-2 (5 KOs)
Bruno Surace has amassed a record of 28-0-2 (5 KOs) and the Frenchman took his career to new heights when beating Jaime Munguia in Mexico in December.
The 26-year-old had never even fought outside of his native France, before getting the call to take on the Mexican in hostile territory, but that didn’t stop him pulling off a huge upset.
That success is the standout victory on the 26-year-old’s record, and the challenge for Surace now, is to prove the win over Munguia was no fluke.
