After a successful amateur boxing career, which included a Mexico City Championship and a Regional Championship, Isaac Cruz made his professional boxing debut in March of 2015.
Cruz started his boxing career with five straight wins, before suffering his first loss by unanimous decision in February of 2016.
Following his first defeat, Cruz bounced back by stringing together 17 wins and a draw in an 18-fight unbeaten run. This impressive form earned Cruz a title shot in December of 2021 when he challenged Gervonta Davis for his WBA Lightweight title. Unfortunately, Cruz lost this fight by unanimous decision.
The following fight for Cruz took place in April of 2022, when he fought Yuriorkis Gamboa for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight title. Cruz won by technical knockout, marking his first professional boxing title win.
Later that same year in September of 2022, Cruz fought Eduardo Ramirez for the vacant WBC Silver Lightweight title. Once again, Cruz easily won this fight by knockout in the second round to secure his second professional boxing title.
Cruz’s most recent fight was in July of 2023, when he fought Giovanni Cabrera. This marked Cruz’s first defense of his WBC Silver Lightweight title and was also for the vacant WBO Latino Lightweight title.
Cruz won this fight by split decision, retaining his WBC Silver Lightweight title and winning the WBO Latino Lightweight title, his third professional boxing title.
So far in his career, Cruz has won a total of 17 fights by knockout and eight fights by decision. His only two losses have been by decision and he also has one draw. Further, Cruz is currently ranked as the third best Lightweight boxer in the world and is the number one ranked Mexican boxer.
Cruz will fight Angel Fierro in a super lightweight bout on February 1, 2025 in Las Vegas.
