Cruz made his professional boxing debut in March 2014, winning his first five fights in a row. Following this early win streak, Cruz had a setback in February 2016 when he suffered his first career loss.
However, Cruz quickly bounced back from that defeat, winning 17 of his next 19 fights with the only blemishes being a draw in September 2017 and a loss to Gervonta Davis in December 2021 by unanimous decision.
Despite losing to Davis, Cruz was awarded his first title fight in April 2022, a fight he won by technical knockout against Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight title.
Cruz then went on to win the WBC Silver Lightweight title in September 2022 and the WBO Latino Lightweight title in July 2023. Despite all of this success, Cruz is coming off a split-decision loss to Jose Valenzuela in August 2024.
So far in his career, Cruz has won 18 fights by knockout and eight by decision. All three of his losses have been by decision while he has one draw.
