Gilberto Ramirez record

47-1 (30 KOs)

Ramirez made his debut with a first-round stoppage of Jeseth Magallanes in 2009 in his homeland of Mexico and won his first five bouts inside the first two rounds.

After putting together a 14-0 record, Zurdo faced his first serious test against the 23-0 Rogelio Medina, but he stopped his rival in the sixth round to land the vacant WBC Youth middleweight title.

The southpaw fought outside of Mexico for the first time in 2013 as he came up against American Derrick Findle in the United States, winning via unanimous decision in a 10-round contest.

The following year Ramirez claimed another notable win, and a couple of regional level titles, by stopping the 33-6 Giovanni Lorenzo in the fifth round to land the NABF and WBO NABO super middleweight titles.

A first-round win over Junior Talipeau saw Zurdo add the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super middleweight title to his collection in July 2014.

In 2015, Ramirez began to make a serious rise up the ranks as he claimed an eye-catching decision win over the 30-1 Maxim Vlasov on the undercard of Mike Alvarado vs. Brandon Rios, and the following year, he became a world champion by outpointing Germany’s Arthur Abraham to land the WBO world super middleweight belt.

The Mazatlan native defended that title against Maksym Bursak, Jesse Hart (twice), Habib Ahmed and Roamer Alexis Angulo before moving up to light heavyweight.

Ramirez suffered his first, and so far only, defeat in 2022 as he was outpointed by the now undisputed king of that division, Dmitry Bivol.

The Mexican moved up to cruiserweight after losing to Bivol and picked up decision wins over Joe Smith Jr. and the previously unbeaten Arsen Goulamirian, winning the WBO cruiserweight belt in the latter fight. Ramirez won a second cruiserweight belt in his last bout as he secured a unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Chris Billam-Smith to land the WBO title.

Yuniel Dorticos record

27-2 (25 KOs)

Cuba’s Dorticos enjoyed an impressive amateur career before moving into the professional ranks in 2009 against journeyman Hilario Guzman, recording a TKO win in the fourth round.

Dorticos followed that up with five consecutive first-round wins as he began to build a reputation as a knockout specialist.

In 2011, he stopped Livin Castillo in the third round to win the WBC Latino cruiserweight belt.

After compiling a 17-0 record with 17 stoppages, Dorticos was taken the full distance by the experienced Edison Miranda.

After stopping Fulgencio Zuniga in 2016, Dorticos became the mandatory challenger for the WBA title but he instead faced Youri Kalenga for an interim championship rather than champion Denis Lebedev, who was allowed to contest a unification fight rather than take on a mandatory challenger.

Dorticos claimed a sensational 10th-round win over Kalenga in a fight where both men enjoyed periods of success to become the interim champion.

Dorticos was elevated to full champion and then entered the World Boxing Super Series, where he defeated Dmitry Kudryashov.

Before his next Super Series bout he was stopped by Murat Gassiev, thus losing his WBA title and his unbeaten record.

The Cuban won his Super Series semifinal against Mateusz Masternak and then defeated Andrew Tabiti to claim the IBF belt and become a two-time world champion.

He lost the IBF belt in his first defense, as he was beaten via majority decision by Mairis Briedis in the Super Series final.

Dorticos has fought three times since that defeat to Briedis in 2020 and has won all three fights by stoppage. The 39-year-old was last seen in June 2024 as he stopped Alan Campa inside the first round.
