Devin Haney can’t afford to make any mistakes when he takes on Jose Ramirez with the American chasing a highly-anticipated rematch against Ryan Garcia.
The Dream was one of boxing’s brightest stars prior to last year’s bout with Garcia, but the Californian now has major questions to answer.
The 26-year-old was floored three times and beaten on a unanimous decision by Garcia 12 months ago and looked hugely vulnerable to power.
Garcia’s victory at catchweight — Garcia came in overweight — was later overturned to a no contest after King Ry tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, but that doesn’t change how susceptible Haney was to the power of the 26-year-old.
The Dream is once again a strong favorite when he takes on Jose Ramirez in Times Square in New York City on May 2, 2025, although his 32-year-old opponent could carry a threat.
Ramirez has carried enough power to claim 18 stoppage victories from his 29 career successes and the Californian will be looking to find his target in Times Square.
Who will prevail in New York? Let’s look at the 'Tale of the Tape'...

Devin Haney (31-0-0, 15 KOs) is a former undisputed world lightweight champion and a two-weight king. The Dream is unbeaten in his 31 professional contests, but that record doesn’t quite tell the full story.
The 26-year-old was a strong favorite when taking on Ryan Garcia in Brooklyn last year, but that bout didn’t go how Haney expected.
The San Francisco fighter was downed three times by Garcia, who was awarded a unanimous-decision victory over the former undisputed lightweight king. However, that bout was later overturned to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
However, it still leaves Haney with questions to answer.
The Dream has previously starred in a pair of victories against George Kambosos Jr. and also has an excellent success over Regis Prograis on his record.
Haney was less impressive when outpointing Vasyl Lomachenko in 2023, but Loma is a top-level performer and the Dream was still good enough to pick up the win.
The San Francisco fighter moves up to 144lbs in a catchweight contest against Jose Ramirez, while he has also been out of the ring for over a year.
The Dream will have to answer those questions if he is to get back on track and stay in line for a rematch with Garcia later this year.

Jose Ramirez (29-2-0, 18 KOs) was a 2012 Olympian and made a smooth transition to the paid ranks.
The 32-year-old moved to 26-0 as he climbed the ranks and those victories included excellent wins over Maurice Hooker, Viktor Postol and Jose Zepeda.
The California fighter won the vacant WBC super-lightweight strap when beating Amir Ahmed Imam in 2018 and became a unified champion when getting the better of Hooker a year later.
The American lost his unbeaten record and world titles to Josh Taylor in 2021, and Arnold Barboza Jr inflicted the second defeat of Ramirez's career in Saudi Arabia last time out.
However, the 32-year-old performed with credit in that bout against a fearsome opponent, and it may not be too late for the Californian to get back in the win column.
Ramirez has been working on his power game with trainer Robert Garcia, with the hope of exposing the Dream’s suspect chin and it will be interesting to see if the Californian can strike in Times Square.
