Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez titles at stake

This fight is taking place at welterweight and neither man holds a title in this division.

Devin Haney record

31-0, 1 NC (15 KOs)

Haney was last seen in April of 2024 when he faced Garcia in what was supposed to be a defense of his WBC super lightweight title. However, Garcia didn’t make the weight so the bout became a non-title fight.

Garcia claimed a majority decision win after flooring Haney three times, but the fight was later declared a no contest. If Haney and Garcia both win on May 2, the pair are expected to meet again later this year.

Haney made his official debut in Tijuana in 2015 and fought four times in Mexico before his US debut in April of 2016.

The Dream put together 14-0 record before stepping up in class for a showdown with the 10-4-2 Hector Garcia Montes in April of 2017, winning via unanimous decision.

In 2019, Haney began a serious rise up the ranks with a points win over the previously unbeaten Xolisani Ndongeni to claim the vacant WBC International and WBO Inter-Continental lightweight belt and later that year he became the interim WBC champion by stopping Zaur Abdullaev in the fourth round.

He was then elevated to full champion as Vasiliy Lomachenko, the previous holder, was promoted to "Franchise Champion" by the WBC and he then claimed a host of impressive wins over Alfredo Santiago, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jorge Linares and Joseph Diaz.

In 2022, Haney beat Australian George Kambosos Jr. via unanimous decision in Melbourne to become the first undisputed lightweight champion in the four-belt era.

Kambosos opted to use the rematch clause and Haney backed up his first win with another clear points victory.

He defended those titles against superstar Lomachenko in 2023 and was awarded a unanimous decision win, although that result was not without controversy as many felt the Ukrainian had done enough to get the decision.

The 26-year-old became a two-weight world champion in December of 2023 by outpointing Regis Prograis to claim the WBC super lightweight title and he is now stepping up to 147lbs for his clash with Ramirez.

Jose Ramirez record

29-2 (19 KOs)

Ramirez made his debut in 20123 with a first-round stoppage and put together an 11-0 record with eight stoppages before taking on the more experienced David Rodela for a regional title.

Ramirez stopped Rodela in the first round for a statement victory and in 2015 he began his rise up the ranks by outpointing Johnny Garcia for the vacant WBC Continental Americas super lightweight title, surviving a second-round knockdown on his way to victory.

He became a world champion in 2018 with a unanimous decision win over Amir Ahmed Imam to claim the WBC super lightweight title.

The 32-year-old backed that up by seeing off the previously unbeaten Antonio Orozco and then Jose Zepeda, before adding the WBO belt to his collection with an impressive stoppage win over Maurice Hooker.

Ramirez lost his titles to Josh Taylor in 2021 and has fought four times since, winning three in succession before being outpointed by Arnold Barboza Jr in December of 2024.

Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez odds

Haney is the clear favorite at -1200, while Ramirez is rated as a +700 underdog.
