David Benavidez vs. David Morrell: Picks, Predictions and Odds

Unbeaten light-heavyweight stars David Benavidez and David Morrell headline a stacked Las Vegas card on Saturday night and the main event looks likely to live up to its billing.

David Benavidez vs. David Morrell betting picks and predictions

David Morrell ML (+155)

Two unbeaten light-heavyweights meet when Benavidez and Morrell clash in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Benavidez has far more experience on the professional scene amassing a record of 29-0 and 24 of those successes have come by stoppage.

'The Monster' has looked like a pretty fearsome fighter in his career and there are certainly some solid names on the Nevada fighter’s card, but that form suddenly looks a little shaky when put under some scrutiny.

Victories over David Lemieux, Caleb Plant, Demetrius Andrade and Oleksandr Gvozdyk read well since all four are former world champions, but Benavidez has been carefully matched and it’s hard to believe that any of those fighters were at their peak when taking on the 28-year-old.

Gvozdyk hadn’t looked the same fighter following his crushing defeat to Artur Beterbiev and was certainly in the twilight of his career at the age of 37 when he took on Benavidez.

Andrade has a hugely padded record and the American had fought only twice in the last four years by the time he faced The Monster, while Lemieux won his world title way back in 2015 and hasn’t been back in the ring since losing to Benavidez in 2022.

The triumph over Plant is probably the most credible of Benavidez's career, but it’s not hard to think that the Nevada man is being overrated on the back of having those names on his record.

Morrell has contested only 11 professional bouts, but the Cuban has been fast-tracked since making his debut in the paid ranks in 2019 and the slick southpaw looks a seriously talented performer.

The Minneapolis resident fought for a secondary world title in just his third pro fight, and while there aren’t any standout names on Morrell’s card, victories over Radivoje Kalajdzic and Aidos Yerbossynuly are useful performances.

Benavidez is a strong fighter, who offers explosive power and relentless pressure from a solid and high guard, but the Monster faces a unique skill set on Saturday night and it may prove too much for him.

Morrell will benefit from a four-inch advantage in reach, superior footwork and hand-speed in Las Vegas and the 27-year-old will also be able to mix it physically if this fight becomes a war.

The Cuban may not have the former world champions on his record that Benavidez does, but the 11-0 fighter is hugely unexposed and looks ready for a breakout victory.

It’s difficult to know exactly where Morrell's ceiling sits, but uncertainty doesn’t always have to be viewed negatively and backing the Cuban looks like a gamble worth taking in Las Vegas.

David Benavidez to be knocked down round 9-12 (+330)

There is no doubt that Benavidez faces the toughest test of his career - no matter what the record of defeating four former world champions suggests - on Saturday night, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the Monster fell in the latter rounds of the Las Vegas clash.

It’s +330 that Benavidez is knocked down in rounds 9-12 and that looks an interesting play.

The Monster has a stiff, sometimes robotic high-guard, but that style can quickly unravel as tiredness sets in and the 28-year-old is likely to be put under extreme pressure by Morrell.

The superb southpaw has a skill set that Benavidez is yet to encounter and the Cuban has the power to match the movement, footwork and hand-speed.
